[REVIEW] # 8056 MONSTER CRAB CLASH

Post by brickman300 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 12:38 pm

Indexed

I was at Walmart yesterday and I had $ 20 to spend after I returned a gift. I was looking in the lego section and near the Atlantis I found the last the last crab clash set left so I decided to pick it up since I realized I did not have an Atlantis set.

Pieces: 68
Walmart Retail Price: $6.97
Minifigures: 1

Box:

The front and back both show the minifigure and the crab in a stance or fighting pose like all of the other Atlantis sets.

When you open the set you will find 2 bags and obviously an instruction booklet.

Minifigure:

The minifigure in this set is a very basic Atlantis diver minifigure with a harpoon, diving gear, and an orange treasure key. The minifigures head also has 2 sides with a serious expression and a scared expression so you can change his mood in the battle.

Monster Crab:

The crab is a pretty easy build but has lots of repetition with 6 legs and 2 claws. The crab also has four stickers one as the eyes and the others for detail. The claws on the crab are quite large compared to the rest of its body. Though it is an easy build it uses some unique parts for the claws and some for the body.It is also very sturdy.

Pros:

Crab is pretty cool looking and is good size for how many pieces it is.
Price is good compared to other sets for their pieces
Diver is very well detailed

Cons:

Crab's claws are very big for the rest of its body.
The building of the crab is mostly repetition.

Final Verdict:

I would recommend this set to young builders since it is very sturdy and playful or to Atlantis fans since it is a small fun set for a cheap price.

Maybe Ill pick this up ,or another small atlantis set.

I really like them, but have to focus my LEGO spending on specific themes.

So I decided not to get into the Atlantis theme. :(
But a small one, might be a good idea.

THAT'S how they getcha.... ;)

Honestly, I was initially intrigued by the Atlantis theme - got the Sea Jet impulse and Wreck Raider sets to 'test the waters' (pun intended), and then got the Typhoon Turbo Sub on sale for $15. They're cool, but ultimately I'm not looking to collect the entire line. If I find the Neptune Carrier at 50% clearance down the line I'll grab it. The colors, figs and parts are good additions to the 'general populace' but I won't be keeping them in isolation, like I did with some of the cooler Space Police 3 and all my Indiana Jones sets. In fact, a lot of the non-stickered pieces from them made their way into my Phoenix Fireball.

Thanks for the review. My spouse picked up one and then got hooked on the Atlantis theme.
