Best place to sell older lego sets?

Post by orangenwhite4life » Sun Feb 14, 2016 8:58 am

Was wondering where the best place to sell legos would be. I have 38lb of 85% star wars, some older castle sets, a few mars sets, and one older ferrari race set. Looked on ebay and nothing seemed to be selling, only the stuff for cheap. I dont expect to get a lot but i figured more that $250. I seperated them into all the different colors last weekend, which took up almost all my time. I tried building them to sell as complete sets separately, but spent 2h on one that im only 75% done with. I need some cash with college and I dont have a large amount of time to build legos and study at the same time. This topic was not created to advertise what Im looking to sell, just for advice, but if anyone becomes interested ill look into it further for all my set numbers. Thanks!

I'm sorry. I know how that is. I recently went through LEGO sets that I had stored away and sold some. Grad school is killing me. College tuition has increased dramatically since I started undergrad back in 1998.
It really depends on what sort of parts you have. 2x2 and 2x4 basic bricks can sell well on ebay. 5 cents to 10 cents each easily (even used if in good shape). I'm guessing though since its mostly star wars it isn't mostly basic bricks.

If you are selling minifigures I would attempt to make them complete (hats, hair and accessories.. ). Even used Star Wars minifigs sell well if they are in good condition. Especially if you have some rare ones.

Hopefully others will have good advice for you.

If you were to sell it as a bulk lot, you could probably get about $190 ($5/lb) for it without any sorting. As StClair mentioned, if you pick out the minifigs and highlight them in the offering, that could raise the asking price a fair amount if the figs are rare or sought after.

There is a buy/sell/trade forum here: viewforum.php?f=33
It wouldn't hurt to post a few pics there and an asking price, to see if anyone is interested. If you find a local buyer, without going through ebay/paypal, you'll save on fees, too.

There are other LEGO marketplaces for trades on the 'net that we could point you towards, too, if it doesn't pan out here.
