Toys R Us Pricing Mistake PM Potential??

Just flipped through the latest Toys R Us flyer for Nov. 9-15 and on page 12 they have 20% off Creators, Basic and Technic sets. However, if you look closely at the last item set #4635 Fun with Vehicles it says the regular price is $39.99 and now $11.97. You might be able to get away with price matching at Zellers or Walmart if they have this set and of course you have to be a little picky about your cashier too.

I only ever get Babies R Us flyers in the mail. Does anyone know how to get the TRU mailer? Google searches leave me empty-handed; I can only find how to change e-mail preferences.

Zeya's comment made me confused. Is this in Canada or the USA? I don't see a flyer online for Nov. 9-15.

It looks like it's Canadian. $40 is the retail price for that set here in Canada. I checked with TRU USA's price and even with their inflated price, it's only $35 there.

Sorry to confuse. My question was tangential. Just wondering how to coerce TRU into sending me paper mailings.

It's definitely a Canadian sale, found the flyer on their Facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/ToysRUsCanada/a ... 9077348715" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ), and it's listed for $11.97. If you don't get the flyer then I suggest going to TRU on Friday when the sale starts, grab a flyer and go straight to Walmart. They shouldn't argue as the price is listed directly for this set.

TRU CA doesn't price match their own ads? (I'm just confused about wanting a flyer for a pricematch somewhere else...)

^TRU will most likely state that it's a pricing error - in which case they do have to put up visible signs informing folks of this up-front - or print a retraction. If there are no visible signs/retractions and you are told at check-out, they do have to sell you the product at the advertised price (at least that's how it works in Ontario - Consumer Protection Act).

Thanks for the clarification. But that set doesn't look half bad. Great extra parts pack for $12. But we don't know which retailers have this product on the shelf at the moment.

I'm looking at that flyer right now...just wondering is it specifically THOSE Creator sets on sale (the ones shown in the flyer), or is it ALL Creator sets? If it is THOSE specific sets in the flyer, I can see why they did it...TRU has a lot of the big time exclusives on their site again...stuff like the modular houses, the winter sets, and the really grand ones like Tower Bridge; all of which are usually in the Creator section.

Back to the original question. I would say that asking another store to price match a mistake is not ethical. But, putting that aside, I would suspect (I haven't checked every store) that most stores would not match a mistake. Especially if TRU has put up signs in store telling people it was a mistake. The flier clearly says 20% off, and the price shown in more like 80% off. Only the most dimwitted individual would allow that price. But, who knows. I've only ever seen that set for sale at TRU in my area, so the whole thing is probably moot.

Yeah, it's just those specific sets shown that are 20% off. While it's unfortunate that it doesn't include the 'good' Creator sets like the ones you mentioned, the good thing is that the ad isn't misleading in any way. It's a lot better than then saying "ALL ____ Sets xx% Off", and then say "Some Exclusions Apply" in the fine print.

It appears that this item has vanished completely from the website.

Just check Walmart.ca for the stores in your area that have stock.
Price matching price errors is not an uncommon practice if you frequent sites like Redflagdeals.

Just 'cause it's on RFD doesn't make it right.... ;-)

I didn't even bother to go (and I am 5 min down the road from a TRU). They must have caught it in time. They had more than 300 sets for regular price in the online inventory as of yesterday. The item was gone from inventory this morning. So I am sure they caught it before someone made any purchases. They either posted corrections in store or removed them from shelves completely.

Went down to my Walmart this morning and had no problem with them price matching it for the advertised price of $11.97. Great set if your looking for parts.

They were not on the sale floor around noon time at the Toys R Us I went to.

Lucky you, I will bet if they review it, they will see it is an ad error. I debated if I should price match this morning, but decided not to, given it clearly shown they should all be 20% off and the price clearly have ERROR written all over it, and I sure was not in a mood to argue since I KNOW it is an ad error, just seem kinda wrong if it came down to that.

Went to a wal-mart at lunch and just as I got there, a lady set the last of these sets into her cart. She was buying quite a few, so I kindly asked if I could get one from her so I could price match. She was very kind and handed one out of her cart. Had no problem at CS with the ad pulled up on my phone.

p.s. If you are the one that shared with me, send me a P.M. I owe you one.
