Is Target the New TRU of Lego Pricing?

Post by Shannon510 » Fri May 03, 2013 4:38 pm

Just checked Target.com to see if they added the new Superman sets yet. Well they have put up two of the three.

http://www.target.com/p/lego-super-hero ... detaillink Battle of Smallville.

http://www.target.com/p/lego-super-hero ... detaillink Metropolis Showdown.

Not that big of deal but then I took not of the pricing.

14.99 for Metropolis Showdown and 54.99 for Battle of Smallville.

I personally have never noticed sets for more then MSRP at Target. Is this something new for them or is it par for the course?

Could just be different online prices; hard to say til someone finds them in-store. Even so, I wouldn't equate them to TRU since you can quickly and easily price-match at Target (even post-purchase) to knock the price back down to where it should be... Try doing that at TRU and see of far it gets you. ;)

TRU amd K-Mart have been the worst price wise for me LEGO wise. Ironic that both had thier hayday in the late 80s to 90s and still think they can survive in this age with such horrid prices.

The Target stores in my area have been marking up LEGO quite a bit lately. At first it was very selective but now it's spreading to more sets.

Haven't noticed this in Oregon yet. However they also seems to be behind on lego inventory, I have seen 0 Lone Ranger and no Series 10 in any of them in my area.

^Take the DPCI into the store and ask them to get it from the back. Many stores have not put them out yet because of planograms, resets, etc.

As for mark ups, last summer they put the Black Pearl at $120 to "clearance" it at $102. Bah.

Target did this too around 2007, but generally only marginally, under $3.00...then the above MSRP went away. Looks like it is back.

Target doesn't have set prices, the ones near me all have different prices.

Of the 10 or so Targets in my town, the one closest to me marks up Lego. I've never noticed mark-ups at the other Target stores.

I live in KY and I've never noticed Target marking up prices. I buy most LEGO from either LEGO shop at home, local Meijer's, Wal-mart or Target. Most of my LEGO purchases from Wal-mart and Target have been online purchases. They have actually be offering slight discounts online (ship to store with Walmart).
I have noticed ToysRus of course... stopping shopping for LEGO long ago at ToysRus (unless its a clearance item.. which I never find)

I have noticed some sets above msrp. But I also don't buy at msrp. If I do, I usually just go to the lego store which is one floor down. People buy lego at TRU because they think it's cheaper than the store. These days it's the other way around.
