Advice on some possible purchases

Post by Luciant » Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:02 pm

Ran to Walmart during my lunch break, ran into some clearanced sets. I bought some Monster Fighters ($15 Lab! x2), and saw some other Lego games on sale.

I was on the fence so I figured I would ask opinions:

3862 Harry Potter Hogwarts The Board Game ($34.99) on sale $10
3841 Minotaurus The Board Game ($24.99) on sale $9.

Hogwarts has some nice flat grey plates and some other nice parts, but not sure if it's all worth it to keep or sell. Minotaurus has a nice 10" Baseplate ($5) but the other parts are kind of weak.

Walmart also has the 6862 Super Man vs Power Lex @ Walmart for $17. Wondering if I should snag a few of these, as I don't usually seem them on sale, and figure will be a great set when it's retired. Opinions?

I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

You were so lucky that your local walmart offered you a sweet deal on MF sets. I am jealous.

6862 was an interesting set with good selective of minifigs. However, $3 off was not good enough to get it for investment. I would hold my horses.

Clearance games are good for spare parts if you need/want them for your collection but the resale prices are not going to be worth it.

The only possible exception being Monster 4 on DEEEEP discount. After all Jack-o-Lanterns do fetch about $2.00 each.

I bought 2x Superman vs Lex (#6862) at the price of $17 to keep for investment. My reasoning was that it has Superman (classic.. not film version) and Wonderwoman. To the best of my knowledge it is there only appearance and will be of value for that reason. ALTHOUGH... now that I've seen photo's of a future set with The Flash I'm thinking that we might see even more DC superheroes in the near future. The theme MIGHT stretch several years (would love to see a Martian Manhunter and Clayface). If it continues for a couple of years I'm guessing that we'll probably see more of Superman and Wonderwoman in future sets. Still I think having only bought x2 of the set I won't sweat it too much.
I would have loved to have found a Monster Fighters Lab for $15. I never bought that set. I was able to find the swamp monster, Werewolf set and the Vampire Hearse at great discount (x3 each) for investment. Would love to find a Vampyre Castle at %50. I love the MF line and wish it had continued a little longer.
