It seems you are going out of your way to make forum members dislike you. I hope you can see that this is a collaborative community and your attitude is counter to its ethos.

Dear eb,
You should know that here in Canada/us seems that 50% of the People look at lego as a business.
I just moved from Italy, things are different there, maybe 10% are resellers, lots of bricklink.
I am a genuine collector but i am trying to fit in this new system that you guys have created.
If they dislike me that means they dislike how the lego world works here.
Sorry about that.

This whole issue of reselling is a tricky one.

* You've got your average joe family who just wants a good deal on Lego
* You've got the adult lego fans who needs lots of lego for building and moc-ing.
* You've got your casual reseller who does this to fund their lego habbits (or addictions)
* and then You've got your serious reseller who does this as a business

I guess I'm in the category of the casual reseller... if the opportunity presented itself, I probably would have bought 1 to keep, and 1 or 2 to resell or even donate. Is that bad?

But then the serious reseller... they'd buy as many as they could get their hands on probably... but are they any worse off than me (or the rest of you?). I guess the point being, the average joe family is never going to get these deals... so it's just matter of how many of "us" get the deal, e.g. 50 of us buying 2 each, or just the first lucky 10 who buy 10 each?

The point of being a reseller in Canada/us is that when you purchase something you can always return it,so the reseller can always get his money back from wallmart toysrus or whatever.
In Europe they dont give you money back or refunds, Just coupons for the value.
I am sure a lot of you guys without that parachoute wouldnt have bought 10 or 20 items Just for reselling

I never buy from resellers. There are enough sharks in the supply chain already without adding more at the end. Of course, since those post-retails resellers actually manage sell their stuff, there are those who seems to have money to burn.

Not everyone who buys large quantities is necessarily an evil reseller, some "resellers" are builders just as much.

We are a household of builders (even furniture, http://www.bricksync.net/legotable004.jpg ), but we also have a BrickOwl/BrickLink store with 180k parts. Everything we don't need ends up in the store.

I can understand this perspective when it comes to buying sets -- I have never paid more than retail for a set. Once it is retired and the after-market price goes up, I will likely either buy a used copy or I will go without.

But for parts? If I need 100 of a particular part that comes 5 in a set, I am thankful that a reseller on BrickLink went through the trouble of buying 20 of that set, so that I can buy the specific part that I need.

Having said that, I understand the distaste toward the buyer who clears out a store's stock with no thought of whether anyone else is affected.

Went down to two different wallys at noon to find I was too late, all cleaned out. Already seeing postings on reselling sites around me asking $75, person claims they "got a great deal on these and looking to sell a few extras to help cover the cost of christmas! First come first serve". So frustrating that I couldn't just get one.

Hi Luca,

While I appreciate you highlighting the difference between Italy and Canada/US, I am well aware of the dynamics of the LEGO world in here. And I can certainly empathize you trying to fit into the system we have here. I am glad you chose Canada, and wholeheartedly welcome you to our beautiful country. But fitting in does not mean that when you find a great LEGO deal and others have not been able to, you go about flaunting it. That was my original concern. I am genuinely happy for you that you were able to buy a few and successfully resell. But there's no need to make others (who weren't able to buy one/few) feel bad about missing out.

Just to clarify — both to you and to everyone else in this thread — I have no problem with the concept of reselling and/or resellers, and completely understand those who resell to subsidize their hobby or even simply resell as a means of living. In fact, I have been thankful of reselling because I have on occasion bought sets on the after-market that I otherwise would not have been able to. What I find distasteful is the bragging, in a community that was designed as a collaborative mechanism.

Sorry for the rant.

Regards,
EB

Ben

I hope you are building a MOC with all those pieces...
Yes, I'll use them to build a MOC. I'm not sure what yet, but they are definitely for building, not for resale. It's going to take me some time to figure out how to use all of these different colours.

Wow.. i apologize Ben, beautiful MOC! I spend too much time on redflagdeals i guess. I thought you were ine of those hoarding resellers.

I apologize once again :)

No problem -- I wasn't insulted. Now I just need to find some containers for all these pink and purple pieces that I have never had significant quantities of before. I wonder how a medium lavender building would look...

There are so many ways to fit in the LEGO community. This isn't the best one.

Back on topic; what's so good about this set? I mean I understand it has a lot of pieces but is that about it? Does it come with good unique pieces?

Check out the first brick set link in the original post. It will part out this set. There is a great colour selection with 3-4 shades of each primary and secondary colours. Also instead of just bricks there are a lot of special pieces including tires, Windows, doors, flowers, slopes, hinges, arches, etc.

For me it's really low cost per piece on, especially on lots of less common colors -- 3 different purples, some pinks, dark red, dark green, dark blue, etc. There's also generally a mix of different shapes for each color -- it isn't that there are purple bricks in it, but only purple 2x4s.

Last year the box actually had better cost per piece because it was 1600 pieces for $40 in Canada, but something like 32 of the pieces were 1x1 round eye tiles and the colors were mainly standard red, yellow, blue, green and white with lesser amounts of orange, black, gray, and lime green. There were no purples, pinks or dark green, dark blue or dark red. The one uncommon color that was in it was some sort of azure, but only in 2 shapes of standard bricks plus 1x1 brick with a stud on 1 side and some sort of slope if I recall correctly. I don't find that nearly as useful as the mix that appears in this year's box.

Looks like they are popping up in stores. Use the brickseek widget to find out which stores near you have it in stock. Disclaimer: widget not 100% accurate so please don't shoot the messenger.

I tried a very common set, Hulkbuster smash which I'm pretty sure my local store has and it said it was not available in my area. Does brickseek work in Canada?

Keep in mind the flyer said Pre-Black Friday Sale...so it was effective today and not surprised these showed up 2-3 days in advance.

In the past the LEGO box was a Black Friday special and, of course, sold out pretty much before Black Friday.

Managed to get one and a couple for people I know that would be interested but no way could they get to a Wal*Mart in time :)

Both mdoupe and Ben make great MOCs. Now, Ben, you have to re-org your "studio" to accomodate those new colours...does Rubbermaid make those colours or have you gone transparent?!

Seems like a lot of effort involved to make a profit of $260 :eh:
