Finding the deal.

That is what got me going.

I am a recovering pack rat. You call them Horder's now.

Over the past few decades I have been very successful finding deals!

In fact, I would say I am VERY good at it.

I find things in odd places! But one of my favorites has to be the flea markets!

While not as 'one stop shopping' as Ebay, the fun part for me is in the finding at the flea.

I made a route of it for MANY years!

And it worked out for me! Now my family was none to pleased when I would bring home a mini-van full of product! But hey, what is life but for a mini-van full of LEGO.

I myself am not a fan of hoarders. The main reason is that they do not leave rare things on the shelves. Then they re-sell them at much higher prices. However, I'm glad that you are good at finding deals. I've been to only one or two flea markets-it was a long time ago, and I could have gotten some BIONICLE, but I got a Yugioh blimp...odd...

You may be misinterpreting his self diagnosis as a hoarder (or I am). Hoarding goes back generations in my family and it sounds silly but I sometimes struggle to part with things that I no longer need. A true hoarder would collect but find it difficult to ever part with them or re-sell them as you say. I define an opportunist as someone that buys things to resell at markup.

God bless my mother's hoarding, sometimes it pays off. She held onto my legos for over 30 years in the basement and this x-mas I will be giving my son my old sets 375 and 381 among other olds sets plus all the new ones I've bought. The wife and I built these old sets so that I can give them to him on x-mas eve. A special present from dad. And it was fun for me to re-live old memories while putting them together.

Ah, then a hoarder is someone who just doesn't like giving up anything. I guess I MIGHT be called a hoarder-I had assumed a hoarder was one who bought every LEGO set of that type in the store and re-sold on bricklink. I hate parting with things-I have a ton of yugioh cards which I've been planning on selling-I tried once, but it didn't work. And I don't know if I'll like them again, but I need money...haha. But I'll never give up/sell my LEGO.

I guess that makes me a hoarder then, a Lego hoarder that is. I’ve been going to yard sales and flea markets for almost 10 years with one thing on my mine, LEGO. Every summer I would collect 2-3 large totes full of the colorful little pieces of joy. But to my dismay, over the past few summers the yard sales and flea markets just have not produced much Lego. I am afraid if the trend continues I won’t be finding anything in a year or two.

I live in the United states, and I almost never come across these in garage/yard sales. Recently there have not been ANY. Earlier, I did find an almost complete Hogwarts Express (from 2001) for 15 dollars, but other than that, I have not found any such things at these sales. Mostly it's old people, maybe a few kid's games left over that haven't left the house, but nothing of value. At the only flea market to which I have been, I did see a few BIONICLE, Throwbots, and TECHNIC Battle Cars. I a Throwbot there I think.
