Re: Target clearance sale

Post by cbaker1974 » Sat Jan 15, 2011 3:31 pm

My Target experience has been a lot tougher than the Walmart clearance since Target does so much better at marking the clearance either on the box or by placing it in another aisle. I swept around 4 Metro Atlanta Targets and most were already cleared out by moms running with multiple shopping carts, but I did manage these for half off:

PoP Alamut (only marked down at Tucker store, all other stores had it full price)
Troll Fortress (only found 1 of these at John's Creek store, one of the 2 seals was broken and the box beaten up but I got it anyway)
Clone Walker Battle Pack x2 (in Cumming, no more left)
Assassin Droids Battle Pack x3 (also in Cumming store, no more left)
Galactic Enforcer (about 7 left in Norcross)
SP3 Smash N Grab (in Norcross, some left)
SP3 Undercover Cruise (in Norcross, some left, felt stupid though when I found it at Kmart for $3)
Space Police Central (last one in Duluth, box really beaten up)

The Norcross store also had Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker that was a return from online, marked down from $249 to $179 but the box was all taped up and I passed, it was on a random endcap.

Most stores were picked pretty clean except for Hero Factory and a little World Racers...this plus the Kmart finds resulted in a nice little day!

Saw many Galactic Enforcers (5974) at 50% off today, bought a Atlantis Gateway of the Squid (8061) for 50% off and they also had plenty of Atlantis 8057 half off as well. I'm real tempted on the Space Police set, but not really the type my daughter and I have done. She wanted the Atlantis set in part because it had a Girl Diver.

Hmmm, if Troll Fortress and King's castle are now at 50% off, then i'm gonna see if they can price adjust. I think they are a 90 day policy on returns and I know I bought both of these sets within 90 days (def before christmas). Perhaps I can get some cash back.

@oocaleb101oo I price checked King's Castle yesterday at Target, and it was full price $99.95. Each Target seems to operate differently in terms of sale prices - so you may not have any luck with a potential price adjustment. Worth a shot though, I suppose!

Yeah i was thinking about taking pics of my UPC codes and then printing them out and price check via scanner first...if they showed up less then i would bring the receipts to the girl and see if she can adjust. If she wouldn't price adjust then i'll try my hand at a return/rebuy then i'll actually bring the sets too. I got both of the sets for around 65 / 69 when they were on sale, but every penny counts and I would love the difference back. However, if both sets show up at retail at my 2 targets.. then I won't worry about it lol.

@oocaleb101oo I just stopped by another Target - King's Castle at full price, as was most everything else. Each Target is its own universe it seems. This one was very organized. The only sale item was a small Atlantis set at 50% off. Good luck with your castles!

OR...

If you can find one at 50% off just buy it, then return it using the full price receipt.
then maybe buy it at 50% off again?

I think Target is finally cracking down on clearance price adjustments, about time.

The Targets near me had nothing, the TS3 train was full price and the SP3 big $100 ship was still $70 and not $50.

Neither one had the minfigures either.

I've been playing the whole buy/return/swap/price adjust game this holiday season with Target, Walmart, and TRU so I figured I would chime in with my learnings:

TRU
-Returns with Reciept for price paid up to 90 days.
-Items purchased online and returned in stores may receive IN STORE CREDIT ONLY. Items ordered online and returned via mail can be returned to card purchased from.
-1800Toysrus is actually AWESOME with cust service. They've hooked me up both times I've called with probs

Target
-Will *NOT* price match an item bought online that is listed cheaper in stores. You are forced to 'return and repurchase'
-Ordering online sometimes confuses their records and when you go to return an item, it occassionally will seem to not show that you made the purchase (even if they use your CC to pull up purchases made BY that card). Make sure you keep your receipts.

Wal-mart
-Will *NOT* price match an item bought online that is listed cheaper in stores. You are forced to 'return and repurchase'
-Will *NOT* price match an items bought in store that is cheaper online. You must purchase the item online and return the higher previously purchased item.

The thing I learned from this Christmas experience:
Make sure you have a healthy line of credit (or Credit Card Available Credit).... you will need the extra space so you don't "lock" up all your money with all the buying/returning, since it seems most companies make you go through return/repurchase rather than an easy price-adjustment.

(I.E. They hope you can't afford to purchase the cheaper item without the return done first, hoping that after they take 3-4 days to refund the money to your account, the sale will be over).
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

Today I checked out 3 Targets in western Washington state. None had Battle of Endor in stock. I scanned the Kingdoms Castle, Airport, Hogwarts Castle, and PoP Battle of Alamut. All of them came up at full price...bummer. I scanned pretty much all the larger sets at all 3 stores and none were on clearance.

But the first one did (not anymore) have the City Corner for $15.99, whoa! At the next one the shelf tag said $15.99 but they were sold out and only laughed when I asked if any were in back. They said something like I was the 10th person to ask today...oh well! The 3rd Target I went to had them priced at $59.99 on the shelf tag and when scanned. Further research (calling the stores and pestering them to look for me) showed that any that did have City Corner in stock were all @ 59.99. So that explains why they still had them heheh.

Atlantis Wreck Raider was tagged for clearance on the box @ $5.48

I was hoping for more clearance but the City Corner made up for it :!: :?:

i just looked at my receipts from today and realized City Corner was 14.98, not 15.99. Not that it matters but yeah I was wrong in my previous post above.

I have hit most of the Targets on the northern Front Range of Colorado. Only items I've seen on sale are Power Miners, Ben 10, and Prince of Persia sets. Did not see a single Kings Castle or Troll fortress and very few Harry Potter sets.

VERY good info. Didn't know about the toysrus online buy and return for store credit. Me and my bud ALMOST bought just enough series 3 minifigures to get free shipping and we were going to return the duplicates instore. I know I would have been steaming if they offered store credit, but I didn't research it like you did so there's no reason to get mad. Glad I found a box @ Target.

Most likely my Target wont have those castle sets on clearance, i'll check it out regardless, but i'm not getting my hopes up.

Living here in New England, the Target clearance sale is now over. I went yesterday and everything was back to full price. The new sets are in: Police/Town, Creator Log Cabin, Pharaoh's Quest, and Ninjago. The Ninjago starter packs took up a whole display on the end of the aisle. I didn't see any series 3 Minifigs around either. Good selection, no sale.

Yep, all targets I hit today in memphis were full price. Clearance aisles were empty. Alamut was $79.99! I did hit the motherload of the kingdoms archer polybag. I've been looking forever for that it seems like.

I'm in St Paul, MN and haven't been lucky enough to get a city corner for 14.98 but have seen the camper (7639) at mis-marked at several Targets for $4.24 (75% off of actual price of $16.99). Campers are usually sold out (like the City Corner) but I've managed to grab 4 of them for my daughters.

Anyone else seeing the Camper at this price? It's not clearanced just mistagged on the shelf.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot - the Ninjago Spinjitzu Dojo (2504) has been mistagged at $39.99 (should be $49.99) at most of the Targets around here.
