"Unusual" Stores to consider when buying Lego

Post by atmail35 » Sun Feb 06, 2011 1:59 pm

I have been thinking of posting this for a while, I wasn't sure if it was best here or in Sales/Deals (since no actual sales/deals are included) or Availability or here.

Anyway....what are some "unusual" stores that carry Lego? I'm not referring to the obvious Target/Walmart/ToysRUs or even Borders/B&N but other stores that some folks might not think about.

What comes to mind for me is:

Five Below - http://www.fivebelow.com/sports/toys
TJ Maxx/Marshalls
Walgreens
Christmas Tree Shops - http://www.christmastreeshops.com/
this was in 2009 but I did find some small sets there that I believe were discontinued at the time

Any others folks want to share?

I went into U.S. Toy for the first time and discovered they have a huge Lego selection.

I've been to US Toy as well. The one I went to carried mostly older sets and one or two newer ones.

I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!

US Toy prices are along the same lines as TRU, at bit more expensive than some stores, but they had sets there you couldn't find at major retailers.

Christmas Tree Shop had LEGOs? Never knew that.

Big Lots normally has Bionicle / Hero Factory.

Shop Rite. it's like a pathmark. They had some great deals last year on space police. They still sell battle packs.

Big Lots is my only odd store I'd say. That and Aldi, but I only think they carried it this year for Christmas.

Playing with LEGO when I can. Where does the time go?

There is a local chain here called Bartell Drugs that one can usually find some decent smaller sets at. Their 'LEGO area' varies wildly in size from store to store though.

Has anyone ever seen Lego at either:

1) Tuesday Morning - http://www.tuesdaymorning.com/indexCatalogOn.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2) Building 19 - http://www.building19.com/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (stores are in New England only)

I have not, but do not go to either regularly. I have seen Playmobil at Tuesday Morning, which is sort of on a similar price point as Lego.

I visited my local Building 19, once, I didn't see any Lego there.

This might sound weird, but I found a few Lego sets in my local Price Chopper this past week. They were in the toy clearance section for about 3 dollars off. I didn't buy them-but I went back after I had scoured the couch and my vehicle for change. Only one set left. Plus a Duplo bucket.

Just a heads up. Check your local big chain grocery store.

Tuesday Morning had a Lego event couple years back (bought a bunch of Batman LEGOs there back then and a lot of other good stuff), but I don't think they had any since then unfortunately. It was great buying LEGOs that were already discontinued at the time at about 30%-50% off MSRP

Over the years, I have occasionally seen some at Tuesday mornings in Sacramento. Not lately. I recall seeing Soccer sets, the Avatar temple and ship sets a few years back and some big Bionicle Castle a year ago, but never anything I was interested in. The best deal I ever found there were some Sizzlers cars at hot wheels prices that I was able to sell for $15-$20 each.

That's interesting about Tuesday Morning. I guess I'll have to keep my eye out for Lego there.

turtle1173 mentioned Goodwill as another potential source in the Availability forum.

I've also seen LEGO at Tuesday morning - but only once. It was a LEGO Mosaic set.
