"Unusual" Stores to consider when buying Lego

I bought the reissued 10001 metroliner at tuesday morning for a steep discount 60% or so, but this was at least 5 years ago.

I'm not sure how widespread they are. I wandered in while the girlfriend was getting her hair done next door, a while back. They didn't have a wide selection, and I noticed that their prices were over MSRP. That web link allows you to search in your zip code for availability. But just don't get your hopes up too high! ;)

I went into Hobbytown once and was disappointed. Didn't see any sale or clearance, but did see the higher than MSRP prices. The selection was limited, but I've seen worse. The only potential there is maybe they have discontinued sets at some locations (I didn't know this was a chain until now).

agreed. There are some around here but I've yet to pop in.

The Hobbytowns around here (Indianapolis) have good selection and prices at MSRP. They've had CMFs (all the way back since Series 1), and our LUG is establishing a good relationship with them. We invited them to our Lego expo (Brickworld Indy) as a vendor.

I stopped by a Big Lots the other day and they had a few Atlantis for $8 (MSRP was $10) and some World Racers. I thought the prices were kind of high for the type of store. I mean you could find them on sale at this price at Target/WM etc.

I was in Learning Express for something else and looked around. Their prices are pretty inflated IMO. They did have some older sets like the City Minifigure Collection http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8401-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, but it was $14.99.
