FS 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer Ultimate Collector Series

Post by jefflord » Fri Apr 22, 2011 6:50 pm

My son and I are (reluctantly) selling one of our most prized possessions, the UCS Imperial Star Destroyer (10030). We bought the set new from Lego Shop at Home. It is just one of 7 Lego sets that have more than 3000 pieces. Ours is 100% complete, and includes both instruction books and the box. Everything is in superb, like-new condition. Based on the considerations described below, we are asking $650 with free shipping within the continental U.S. We will pay $30 of the shipping cost if the buyer is outside the U.S.

As many of you know, this is currently one of most sought after retired LEGO sets. It is the 4th most desired set according to LUGNET, and 24th on Brickset. To determine a price, we have carefully reviewed the prices and descriptions at both eBay ad Bricklink. We think our set is in pristine condition compared to descriptions we read for many other used 10030 sets.

eBay. We analyzed the last 10 completed sales on eBay (2 were new, 8 were used). Adjusted for shipping, the prices ranged from $420 to $790, with the average set selling for $550.

Bricklink. The price guide for the UCS Imperial Star Destroyer indicates that the selling price for an average used set for the last 6 months was $511. Five used sets are currently for sale, with an average asking price of $823. The average new set sold for $818 over the last six months. There are 18 new sets currently for sale, with a mind-boggling average asking price of $1244.

In light of our asking price, we will take some special steps to reassure those who make serious inquiries. We can assure you that if you really want this set, you will be thrilled with ours. It will be packed with great care and its shipping will be tracked and fully insured. We also want to be in touch after you receive it to be sure that everything has gone smoothly and met or exceeded your expectations.

Unless someone jumps at this, we will probably post a similar message at Eurobricks and FBTB.com. After a week or 10 days, we'll consider going the eBay route. Don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions.

PS: We are selling this set solely for financial reasons. With three kids and one Dad who have loved Lego, we've built up a huge collection over the last 12 years. But college is on the horizon and the economy has hit us hard over the last two years. So we are going to sell 20-25 sets and a few hundred minifigs over the next month or two. Stay tuned ....
