I echo what Natelite said. I am in a similar position as you are, as I just got out of my dark ages last November, so I have about 1 year of watching these sales.

They seem to have a BOGO 50% or better every other month or so... varies sometimes between 3 or 4 themes or all themes. Toss in a few other deals, and bottom line is don't "rush" to get a set unless you no longer see it on Lego.com anymore, or as Nate said, its getting close to the end of the normal 2 year life cycle (i.e. Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium, Death Star, Tantive IV, Battle of Endor, etc.).

Earl i am with you too buddy. I THOUGHT about doing 2 Tower Bridges, but my CC has already taken a thrashing this year... I was able to nab my 2 Fire Brigades with Store Credit from a previous BOGO purchase/return ;)

As for adding items into your cart BEFORE the sale.... I did the same thing as you Adol.. it didn't put in the BOGO sale or even mention it on the website. I think it's better to just leave the items up and then just hit add to cart when the deal starts. And this was AFTER I had already placed my order for 2 FB over the phone on my way home. I played around with it and couldn't get it to give me BOGO (around 11:30cst) and thought about the Tower Bridge but my Credit Card begged me to save it's life.

Also want to say THANK YOU TNB AND OUR AWESOME COMMUNITY! Without this site there would be so many great sales I would miss out on (even though my credit card would be happier).

I thought I was gonna have to try some other shenanigans to get FB below MSRP before it was discontinued. No more!

For those who ARE trying the same... here's what I had planned:

Order FB, GE, or whatever other soon to be discontinued sets you want when they are not on sale and actually have them in stock (either know an item your store has IN STOCK at the same price point or order another item at the same price point)... free shipping over $75/$100 throughout the year so should be free. Now just sit back and wait for a BOGO 50% sale, return the FB/GE and then repurchase them during the sale. You have 3 months to return, and can always return/rebuy to restart the clock. Should be able to hold out for the specific theme to go on sale within that time frame. Hope that helps someone!

Well thankfully I saw this post and ordered my Fire Brigade before the sale started so it was in stock. I had a "raincheck" b/c they messed up my order from last month/early July and said I could order and call for a credit of 50% off one set. I got FB and Diagon Alley and I didn't have to stress about the FB being in stock during the BOGO.

I then went to the store and got a few other things...no snowmen or xmas trees available at my store though.

The TRU sales are very plentifuly in my opinion, last year I do not think they had BOGO every or everyother week. I remember something in August, but I think that was it until October (Bricktober).

many of the star wars and the large creator sets are no longer available for shipping so stock set aside for shipping is done, so have to rely on stores.

TRU really must be desperate. So many sales and all of them happen right after the other. The company may have somewhat figured out that their inventory is not moving at all with their markups.

Edit: Nevermind, seems you have to SPECIFICALLY click through the Christmas in July offer page to get the items to come up at the price, you can't just go to the Lego section and add to cart.

Coming out of my Dark Ages recently, these sales have been a blessing and a curse. My wallett has taken a hit but my Star Wars lego sets look great. I have learned just to save money and wait for these sales to buy sets. I still have a 50% off credit with TRU so my next purchase will be the FB to go along with the GE I bought last month. That should be this week :D

I have two HP Hogwarts in my cart and the snowman is free but I'm not getting 50% off the second set....any thoughts?

I ended up giving up on the free snowman, couldn't figure out how to get the free snowman with the two HP sests. I paid $100 before tax for 2 HP Hogwarts 4867 and 17 Series 5 CMF and used my Mastercard for the $25 off.

TRU is getting sneaky. I DID add it and then it took off my 50% off. I could have called to ask, but just wanted to get the transaction done. I tried adding the one HP set, then the second, then the snowman, snowman was zero and HP was full price for both. I tried the reverse, add snowman, then 2 HP, same result.

I added two HP first, one showed at 1/2 price and then the snowman and it returned to full price for both HP. I also had over $40 in CMF so that should also have triggered the free snowman but I could not get 50% off the HP with the Snowman in the cart. Annoying!

Ebates is offering 2% back for TRU, I swore they weren't on Ebates for the past month or so, darn, could have saved a bit on two transactions! I have to remember to check ebates EVERY time!

Go through Ebates and do pick up instore to save shipping but still get credit.

That always happens every time TRU has a BOGO sale and a free promo sale at once-they've done it for quite a while now. (Its online only for now.) Basically you can only have one discount or the other, not both.
