Like other LEGO video game offerings, you can't save in the middle of a board, but can do so before exiting from the 'hub' (in LPotC, this is Port Royal, where you enter into the various boards). Your progress is auto-saved at the end of each board as well.

Thanks for the info, but I'm being dense and have no idea what you are talking about. This is our first Lego video game. We just loaded the disk and the little story came on where Elizabeth faints, falls in the water etc. We got through the blacksmith shop and then the last place we were in the jail area where you had to open the cell and the dog was following you around. It it because we stopped mid "board"?

Sorry we clearly aren't big video game players...we only have 4 games for the Wii ;) Thanks!

Sorry for not being clear - yes, that is still the middle of the first 'board'. Once you complete a board, you will be presented with a screen that tallies up all your achievements - the amount of studs you collected (the silver, gold, blue and purple 'coins'), the number of items you found via Jack Sparrows compass, the number of 'minikit' items you collected, etc.

After this screen, you can choose to continue to play or return to port (the hub). It will automatically save your progress at that point, and then do whichever option you choose. I always return to port between boards, because you can usually buy new characters and garner more studs there. Eventually, you will acquire enough 'gold bricks' (your achievements in each board give you gold bricks) which allow you to access more features, purchase 'cheats' like stud multipliers or additional hearts (hit points), and additional areas of the hub.

Ok I get it now, thanks! I managed to unlock the next chapter by staying up to midnight playing. My husband gave up.

Anyone else have trouble with the compass? I couldn't get it to work but we restarted and it did come back up. When we held the "z" button (on Wii), no "list" or choices appeared. I think it is fixed now but we spent a LONG time trying to figure out what the heck was going on.

The game is addicting. My 6 year old like it, but it is getting difficult for her so we pitch in. Yes, it says 10 and up but she is such a Jack Sparrow fan...I LOVE how Jack runs around, it makes my daughter laugh. She enjoys rolling over Will when Jack is on the barrel. ;)

Odd, I've not really had a problem with the compass except for the occasion where I think I've selected an item to find and it just goes away and dumps me back into normal play. In those instances, I've found it helpful to point the directional stick towards the item and hold it there before releasing 'Z'.

And, yes, all the LEGO video games are very addicting. Especially to those like me, who need to achieve 100% completion.

If you get stuck or have trouble finding an item, you could also Google "Lego Pirates of the Caribbean walkthrough" and you'll find numerous gaming sites that have guides that can help you. It may take some time to find a site and walkthrough that you prefer but it can be helpful. Typically any popular game has numerous versions of guides online.

I consider it a form of cheating but the wife doesn't enjoy the problem solving as much as I do.

I also recommend the Star Wars complete collection, Batman and Harry Potter. The two Indiana Jones games are ok and we do not own the Star Wars Clone Wars yet.

Just got 100% completion! Even unlocked the version of Jack Sparrow who plays the song from the ride and makes everyone around him dance (except, apparently, Davy Jones). Code for that one is "VDJSPW" (at least it is on the Wii).

I have 22,516,863,680 studs total. Yes, over 22 billion (those stud multipliers really add up).
