Familiarity with Simple Machines Set or WeDo Robotics?

Has anyone used the LEGO Education Simple Machines Set or WeDo Robotics Construction Set in the classroom or with your kids? I'd be curious to know what your experience is with either set. We have a precocious boy in the house with decided math/science leanings and have been debating starting him on these. Thanks!
