[USA]Goodwill Hunting

Disclaimer: This may be super YMMV , depending on how many Goodwill stores are close to you and how many Target/Walmart surround you. In my case, I have three Targets and three Walmarts in my area within a 20 minute drive.

Last week, I scored at Goodwill with this (posted in Steal of a Deal thread):

Of all places to go , I tried my luck at Goodwill today .

I found 2504 Spinjutsu Dojo (373pcs, $49msrp) priced at $15. Although I'm not much of a Ninjago fan, I thought it was a fair price to pay for mocfodder.

I was only somewhat satisfied, and so I gambled once more moving on to a 2nd GW location. BINGO. JACKPOT. HOMERUN. TOUCHDOWN!!!

8078 Portal of Atlantis (1007pcs, $99msrp) priced at 34 (wanted this one the most since i missed my chance with it at Target)
7327 Scorpion Pyramid (792pcs, $99msrp) also priced at 34
3065 Olivia's Tree House (191pcs, $19msrp) priced at 5

msrp: ~ $270
i paid: ~$90 with tax

Savings: over $170

Over this past week, I dropped in four times at two different locations. It's a real quick check for me. It doesn't even take more than a minute to scope out their toys racks, although it really is hit or miss.

Today, I found:
Scopion Pyramid at 34.99,
Freeco Speeder at 8.99
SW Advent at 14.99
and a duplo Cars 7.99 (not really worth mentioning, but in case you do look for duplo)

I get the impression that they mostly stock the stuff you might have missed picking up after any clearance.

TL;DR: I found out from the workers that new stuff gets put out on the floor every night for the next day. It doesn't even take more than a minute to scope out their toys racks, So your best bet is to drop by in the morning before all the good stuff gets picked out.

Good to know. I've cruised by a few times, since I live about four blocks from a Goodwill store, but have never seen LEGO before. I will check more often. Where in Cali are you btw?

No Lego's at my local Goodwill.

I noticed that Goodwill's online auction site seems to be listing more Lego these days.

A friend mentioned that they saw some Lego Sets at Goodwill. I pass that store on the way home from work so made a quick stop. Found 2 Atlantis 8078 sets in sealed (though damaged) boxes for $20 each!
Of course the lady working the counter said they never have Lego and not sure where they came from - they still had Target clearance price stickers.

I wish Seattle Goodwill put more up for sale on shopgoodwill. I've seen their invo of used parts and boxed sets here and it blew my mind. I had no idea they received that much...it's gotta take forever to go through it all.

In-store I have zero luck with loose pieces or sets. The weekday pickers clean them out early each morning I suppose.

One said that if they had any LEGO, it'd be in the toy section. So my question is where in the Goodwill store did you find them? Were they consistently put anywhere or was it different per store?

Thanks for letting me know. Then we'll have to go around to all of them sometime soon as when we called, the employees only looked around the counter area, not back in the toys.

Found a sealed Scorpion Pyramid 7327. $39.99 total, no tax in our Bay Area, Calif. Goodwill. It was in the regular Toy section. I see in a previous thread it was only $34.99 at their Goodwill. Can't complain, Pretty good price since our Goodwills have been pricing the Lego Sets pretty high lately.

Every time I go to Goodwill around San Jose, they're cleaned out of Lego. Must be you guys sharking them all, lol.

I've been to most of the East Bay goodwills from Antioch to Union City in recent weeks and found zilch.
Staff tell me they have never seen Legos. (In the ghetto goodwills, I think they sometimes do not even know what "lego" means and have never heard of it.)
I was figuring that East Bay goodwill must ebay the lego they get.
I'm very interested to know if other subregions of the Bay Area actually put legos in-store. Do tell.

I hesitate to give up my secrets, but I found it at the Sunnyvale Goodwill. They don't have a big toy section, so it's a surprise to find any Lego there. Just lucked out. Palo Alto and Mt. View get them in as well. Sometimes it's overpriced with boxes opened and partial sets. More often than not, There's never Lego. So finding a set is rare. And when there is a a set, It seems to be something I'm not interested in. Ninjago or sets geared toward the younger collector!
