Where to get boxes for shipping large sets?

Post by flpanthers1 » Thu Feb 16, 2012 9:00 am

Hey all. Quick question for you. I have ordered some of my Lego's online, but bought most at stores. I kept the boxes they have been shipped in, but what about the ones I have bought at stores? I went to Office Max, the post office, Staples, and have found nothing that would fit a large set like a Republic Gunship, Battle for Endor and the newest Millennium Falcon. Any idea where I could get some good size boxes to ship these sets? Any boxing websites? I was thinking about asking Toys R Us to see if they had any they wanted to get rid of, but have not done that just yet.

I appreciate the thoughts.

I did a quick Google search for 'shipping supplies' and all the websites that come up seem kinda sketchy to me (badly designed website, seems unsafe), but I do know a place you could go to, to get all the boxes you want for free! That place is Costco. If you have one near you, go check it out, you don't need a membership to go in but you do need a membership to buy items. They usually have hundreds and hundreds of boxes in different sizes in these large trolleys. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I was browsing the Brickset forum, and noticed a member posted a message about where he got his storage/shipping boxes. Uline.com. The more you buy the more you save. Depending on the size of your box, the prices range from $0.27 to $3.00. The downside is, the minimum order quantity is 25 boxes, so you might be stuck with 24 unused boxes.

The box that holds banker boxes - holds all big sets with enough room for protection if you had to ship too.
fedex boxes - free if your work has a fedex account
any office environment would have the above

usps boxes for small and medium sets - I am from canada but wish I get these free as offered by usps.com!

in retail places, I have been able to find large boxes at walmarts, toysrus and the lego store

I saw ULine.com too, and thought it looked a little sketchy as well, but if someone else is using them I could give them a shot.

Great ideas guys. Thanks.

Looks like about the cheapest price for a large box (somewhere around 24x16x4) is $1.25. Anyone have any idea on what shipping costs are like for a 25 pack bundle?

I've used Uline in the past, they are good and reliable (I live near one of their distribution centers so I can pick up locally).

I would also suggest checking out eBay/Amazon, as there are several sellers on both sites who sell bulk shipping supplies that cater to the eBay/small business seller.

Uline is a pretty large company for Packing supplies so i don't think there ne risk ordering from them. I've just wondered about the cost effectiveness of it

I've actually ordered and picked up from one of Uline's warehouses before. The only setback is the minimum quantity they have you order. The place where I get some odd size boxes are from a small business that does packaging, shipping, and sells parcel related stuff.
