I hesitate to give up my secrets, but I found it at the Sunnyvale Goodwill. They don't have a big toy section, so it's a surprise to find any Lego there. Just lucked out. Palo Alto and Mt. View get them in as well. Sometimes it's overpriced with boxes opened and partial sets. More often than not, There's never Lego. So finding a set is rare. And when there is a a set, It seems to be something I'm not interested in. Ninjago or sets geared toward the younger collector!
Well, you'll get no competition from me there, no way am I driving all the way to the south bay on low odds. And certainly not for a price a few bucks less than I paid on Target clearance! But it does indicate that the south bay goodwill (which is operationally separate from eastbay) actually moves lego through its brick and mortar stores. I'm 99% sure that eastbay goodwill does not retail them at all, but I know for sure they get them, I have it straight from the horse's mouth, a Target manager. I even know about how many units of certain sets, and when, and its enough volume that they would have had to show up on the shelves somewhere that I hit. But they must be going straight to online auction.

By the way, since there doesn't seem to be a Kmart thread and some bay area people are on this one... the Hayward Kmart had a Hogwarts 4842 on clearance for $97 today.

I don't bother going to Goodwill much. But there's one by me in San Jose right next to a Pho place I sometimes stop by. And while waiting for the food, I check out Goodwill, you guessed it, mainly for Lego. I haven't had much luck there. I think I might have seen Duplo there once, but haven't seen any system stuff. I think one time I asked about Lego and they said they get it, but someone usually swoops in and buys it all. I suspect this one is pretty juicy because right across Capitol is a Target. It has a very small toy section as well, like maybe 7 feet of shelf space.

I don't mind sharing because I don't visit it that often. Although, I might start going to the Sunnyvale one more often now! Just kidding. I only have so much patience for an off-chance at a Lego deal. I'd rather stick to known sales for the most part.

As I said before, More often than not, there is no Lego. And when there is, it's an open box. I recently found 2 Lego kits, The Bounty Hunter Assault, and the new Tie Fighter. Picked up both boxes and heard the sound of loose parts tumbling around. I peeked into the Tie fighter and it was missing all the minifigs (as expected) . Both boxes were priced at $24.99, so I passed. Who knows what else could be missing? They looked to be both from Target salvage.

I saw a 7288 Mobile Police Unit that had been opened and taped sealed... wasn't sure if it was all there so I passed. Ps: its was only $20 off retail, so $24.99...
