Zellers Canada Liquidation: First Wave Starts March 14-16

Lego is only 20% off but I still picked up 3 extra SWU sets.

All toys, including LEGO, are now at 30% off. A respectable discount, especially for exclusives and discontinued sets like the Kingdoms theme, but I think I'm still gonna hold off. I'm definitely gonna start keeping closer tabs on my local liquidation store.

They were at 20% off last couple weeks, now they are at 30% off?

Yeah, I meant the stores that are closing. Ice posted a link to the list of stores in the first post of this thread. Toys must have just gone down to 30% off sometime this week, because I was also just at a store a little over a week ago and it was still at 20% off.

30% is nice, but not great. Last time I checked, they still have a decent selection (you have to check behind the sets in the front to find the ones that were stuffed back there and forgotten).

Anybody have any idea when these first wave stores are actually going to close in order for remodelling? If they intend to open the first Targets by March 2013, I guess that would leave the last months of 2012 with the best discount (if there's anything left).

Selection is getting thin - was just at the Oshawa liquidation store and managed to get the new tie-fighter (last one?) didn't have any battle packs - some other kits and almost no city sets. 30% may not be the best deal to some but you're getting a lot of parents IMHO adding to the demand

I think the issue is more that selection varies quite a bit from store to store, and not so much a matter of inventories getting thin. There are a few stores that I've visited in my area, and the selection between stores was quite different.

But I completely agree that it won't be long before stock begins to dwindle due to parents starting to snatch up sets. 30% off is a good discount for non-savvy afols like us!

Yes, as a parent I'll be snatching up sets for gifts. Star Wars and Ninjago sets seem to work well for kids.

Just popped in to check the situation at my local liquidating Zellers. The toys are now going at 40% off. There was still a fair pile of Atlantis sets, some of the mid sized SW sets, all the Heroica games and some other odds and ends. No Dino, very few City or SH sets.

Thanks for the heads up, Zellers near me still have a bunch of Ninjago and Star Wars, but all the Dinos are gone and city sets are selling fast...

Gloucter center only had a few V-wings, 1 battle of naboo, less than 5 ewok attacks, less than 5 ufo abduction, 2 london escapes, 1 fountain of youth, 1 creator orange motorcycle, less than 5 rotor rescue, 5 or so transport truck, the sphynix and cobra statue as well.

Still at 30% too.

While I was walking through the store today, I did notice an employee getting some signs ready for the next wave of discounts (ie. she was putting some 40% off signs behind the current 30% off signs, getting ready for a quick swap). My guess is that it'll happen in the next couple of days, if tomorrow.

I also checked at my local zellers (Mississauga square one) and it's still 20%
