Amazon Fr. Lego Series 7 Box 60 Pre Order EUR 91.54

Post by kevin7215 » Sat Apr 21, 2012 1:51 pm

Amazon Fr has Series 7 Minifigures box for sale. Not in stock now, but you can order now and they will ship when they come in. This is my first time buying from them, but they should come out to a little less than $2 per minifigure. The price will adjust to the correct price when you go to check out. It takes out a VAT tax that us in the U.S. (and other countries) don't have to pay. The breakdown is:
one box 91.54 EUR (~$121) shipped
two boxes 176.80 EUR (~$234)
three boxes 262.07 EUR (~$347)
four boxes 347.33 EUR (~$460)
and so on... you may end up with a small foreign transaction fee from your credit card (3%). Still better than paying tax here.

I believe Capital One Master Card credit cards do not charge foreign transaction fees.

Ordered 3 boxes. I was just wondering when they were going show up there. Thanks for the link.

I also put in an order for one box. It said it was "out of stock" for me. I didn't see any wording to the effect of "pre-order", but I could have easily missed it. But it should be fine and end up shipping soon, hopefully. This will be my first amazon.fr order.

Warning: I did this deal for a series 6 box a couple months ago and I received a box that had been opened and tampered with. When I feel-checked all the bags (the correct number were in it), it was clear that all the desirable ones had been removed and replaced... eg, I got zero roman soldiers, only two robots, one genie, two gray aliens, and something like 10 each of skaters, dancers, and mechanics. And of course I'm not going to pay international freight to ship it back to them, or try to argue with them in my terrible French about what the proper minifig distribution in the box is supposed to be ("Quest qu cest le problem? Vous avais les soixante polybags, non?"). So I'm guessing someone in their warehouse with a Bricklink account on the side is running this scam figuring, shrewdly, that it will be almost impossible to catch because a lot of people won't tear open all 60 bags the minute they get the package. By the time they might figure it out, it's too late. Buyer beware.

This is scary since the distrubution for each fig should be between 3-5 in each box, so anyone should be able to complete 3 sets with left overs with each sealed box.

Did you order 1 box or multiple boxes? If its just one box, its probably just a returned item that someone picked over it. The box I ordered last time was sealed and had 3 sets.

It was just one box.
Maybe you're right about the reason, but in any case, I got shafted, and it could happen to somebody else. If Amazon France was willing to send a tampered-with returned item to me, they could do it to anyone.
With the cost of international shipping for a return being a significant fraction of the item's value, there is no practical recourse. My experiences with Amazon US and UK have always been fantastic, but I'm not sure I'd order from Amazon france again.

Did the price jump? I'm a little confused by the front page article. It says 100,30 as it currently is on Amazon, but lower it says:
USA/Canada: €83.86 + €7,68 = €91,54

That is the correct price. When you order, the VAT tax is removed. This lowers the price you pay. Confusing I know

Looked through my credit cards and found I had a Sony capitol one VISA. It hould have no foreign transaction fee. Changed my order info and let the credit card company know. Should save me a few $$$

Thanks for clarifying. I should've known better as I ordered the Series 6 the last time there was a deal.
Since we're talking about foreign transaction fees, it doesn't seem my American Express Blue card had any additional fees either.

This is a great deal, but I'm concerned to take advantage of it because of this. Decisions Decisions.

On the subjet of tampered with boxes: I think that as long as you're pre ordering them there's very little chance that that you'll get a returned tampered box as they'll ship them as soon as they get them in.

I agree with Brickbuilder, the chances of getting a return this early is pretty slim. I had ordered 3 boxes of series 6, and they all had the correct distribution.

Keep in mind too, there hasn't been a chance for one of the figs to become significantly rarer than the others, a la roman soldiers. (at least not yet)

The European governments forces retailers to put a super high 16-17% "hidden tax" to their item prices. If your not from Europe, you will get the discount at the final stage. Its not like retailers in US/Canada where prices do not include tax (which usually gets added on after). I agree that it is somewhat confusing.

However, if you are from the US, you won't get charge tax ordering online at Amazon.fr as they do not have an actual store in US. Below is a general guideline (most likely scenario for it) based on our members’ reports.
  • United States: No tax
  • Canada: $8.5 Handling Fee + 5-15.5% Provincial Tax on the item value
  • Australia: No tax if under $1000 AUD
  • Singapore: No tax if under $400 SGD including shipping charges
  • Hong Kong: No tax

If this is the case, are you sure you purchased from Amazon themselves and not one of their third party sellers?
I bought 10 boxes of series 6 figures directly from Amazon and they arrived sealed as you would expect. It's very easy on Amazon to purchase from third party vendors and some of them may be less reputable than Amazon themselves.

I've just placed an order for series 7 figures and I'm not too worried at this point.
