LEGO City Sale at Amazon UK (Ships Worldwide)

Post by Toys N Bricks » Mon Sep 03, 2012 8:52 pm

Amazon United Kingdom currently has some great LEGO City deals going on. If you are outside of Europe, don't forget that you also get a 16.7% tax discount as you do not need to pay Europe sales tax.

LEGO City Sale

Forest Police Station £39.99 (reg.$79.99 USD / $99.99 CAD)
Space Shuttle £14.95  (reg.$29.99 USD / $39.99 CAD)
Fire Truck £8.07 (reg.$19.99 USD / $24.99 CAD)
Satellite Launch Pad £7.89 (reg.$19.99 USD / $24.99 CAD)

Shipping Fees (approximate)

USA/Canada: £4.95 + £2 for each additional item
Outside of Europe: £22.58 + £1-3 for each additional item
Europe: Free shipping on orders above £25
UK: Free shipping with no minimum

For example, if you purchase the 4 sets listed above, it works out to be £59.10 + £10.95 = £70.05. Base on 1.59 USD exchange rate, this works out to be $111.38 CAD. The sets have a retail value of $150 in United States so thats 26% off plus tax free! Base on 1.57 CAD exchange rate, this works out to be $109.98 CAD. The sets have a retail value of $190 in Canada so thats 42% off!

One note of caution I would have is that Amazon Uk usually ships with UPS - so for Canadian folks that means extra duty charges, brokerage, etc. Plus your province's/territory's tax!

Seconded, I just found that out the hard way. Good thing I only ordered items that were at least 40% off MSRP. My great discounts just became mediocre discounts.

I too ordered a set from Amazon.uk and got dinged. Ordered the Forest police station and paid after shipping and dollar conversion $58.09. All good until UPS showed up and wanted another $17.47 which brought the total to $75.56. Still better than the $99.99 MSRP but not as good of a deal than I thought I was getting. The set did show up pretty quickly though.

So when these deals come out just keep that in mind, the brokerage fee alone was $10. I'll order from them again but It wont be for anything small.

Handy chart to see how much UPS charges in brokerage fees. keep in mind they will be adding in the HST on your total purchase as well as this fee.

Just a follow up on this. I had put in an order at Amazon UK that was broken up into multiple shipments. One package was shipped by UPS which I got nailed for the duty and taxes. The other packages were shipped by DHL which I did NOT get charged with the duty and taxes. I don't know if it was just a coincidence that the DHL packages made it past customs unscathed. Anybody else have this experience with their packages?

UPS you will always be charged if the content value exceeds $20.00 CAD - so pretty much always. Then you have to pay the $10.00 bond fee and the 13% tax. Amazon UK ships bigger boxes via UPS. Advantage is that they usually arrive in less than one working week.

DHL is hit and miss. Usually depending on what CBSA agent is processing your package. DHL parcels are processed by Cnada Post. I would say it's about 50/50 being dinged with the tax and the $8.50 fee per package. It depends whether they declare it as 'books' or 'toys' - also on whether the CBSA agent sees it as a book or toy (hmm 'Amazon' - it MUST be a book). So DHL is usually way better than UPS.

There is NO brokerage fee for UPS shipments from Amazon UK - they are never shipped UPS STANDARD. Usually they are shipped UPS Express Saver (!). This means that you "ONLY" pay the bond fee of $10.00 (or a percentage). All in all not that that bad. Oh yes, of course, you'll pay the HST on top of that.

Sorry for the late response - been busy. I ordered one and had to pay about $14.00 in BOND FEE AND TAX. Not all that bad. It was worth it I think. Cool set.

Good thing is that the set arrived without any damage whatsoever (not always a given for Amazon UK).

The Lego City Truck 3221 is now shipping worldwide. It finally let me order it for shipping to Canada.
