Great new train set and price only if it comes with LEGO Power Functions, without, I think I will wait for a sale.

It looks pretty slick and I like it better than the Passenger Train, but not cracking my top 5 favorite trains.

Watched the lego designer video on facebook and the train does a few interesting model design choices. The vid also shows what with two sets look like (attached back-to-back), so the train can look even more complete.

I hate how they don't include 2 "front and ends" in the set. Now to make my train look complete, I will have to purchase 2 sets.

You wish! The power functions would cost almost the price of a train! :(

Since, most train lego collectors already have several motors, irc, remotes and battery boxes/rechargables (from the city line sets) they can switch out and motorize this at no cost to them. I for one, am glad they are not motorizing the set, to keep prices under $0.10 a piece.

I love trains, but that is UGLY with a capital UG.
Awful color choice.
Blah shaping.

are you kidding? the TGV was the inspiration for this train. It's very iconic.

It's accurate to the hideousness of the real thing, yes. And looks even worse in LEGO, where some of the subtler edges of the TGV's already bland shape can't be reproduced.
Now the original Shinkansen, THAT was iconic, historic and beautiful.

I agree. I think this thing is hideous, but I will buy it since I love trains and it will be a good source for train parts and Orange pieces. At least it's not too expensive.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

Makes me sad to see so many people calling this train ugly... I've always been a train geek and the TGV was my favourite! As Slacker says this train is iconic. These days, they paint it blue and light gray, dunno if that would change anyone's opinion of ugliness. Not to mention all the other paint schemes for Thalys, Euromed, La Poste, etc. So far I've resisted getting into Lego trains, but think I'll be getting 2 of these... :P

I like how the design blends in multiple colored bricks instead of using decals. I like how it uses inverted sloping bricks at the bottom. The female conductor's pigtail hair style looks new. I wonder how they are using the power function lights on this model.
