I think you guys are reading US TRU threads too much.. If TRU Canada IS marking stuff up, which sets are being marked up? Like I said, I know the odd set or two might be like $5 higher than normal MSRP, but for the most part, they are level across the board!
That said, yea week 3 bricktober is pretty weak...
Just a quick price comparison on TRU.ca, vs the official lego.ca shop and walmart.

9469 Gandalf™ Arrives, Lego: CAD15.99, TRU: $16.99, Walmart: $15.86
9472 Attack on Weathertop™ Lego: CAD74.99, TRU: $79.99, Walmart: $74.86

(Every LOTR set has similar markups over Lego's prices, never mind that of a competitor in the same malls...)

But you have a point, it is easy to look at one series (especially if thats the main one you are interested in!) and extrapolate to others. A sampling of Star Wars sets show same prices as Lego. One or two of the high end technic sets are more expensive ( 8043 Motorized Excavator for one ) but in general, are the same too.

The minifig exchange in Windsor (Ontario) was a complete joke. Kids were trading in M-bloks and figures without hands or other pieces to the staff. We just missed the opening and by the time my boys tried to trade, it was slim pickings.

They picked up a few Lego City & Monster Fighter sets, but TRU's midnight madness had caused a sell out of the minifig bonus set (for $75 in purchase).

Oh well, they're looking forward to the Monster Fighters club build in Troy, Michigan in a few weeks!

^ I am surprised that the Collectible minifigs sold out that quickly - given that there were no LEGO sales during the midnight madness.

What I have learned is to check at the information counter and ask them to check ALL cashiers, including electronics counter, to ensure that they are REALLY all sold out. Sometimes they will just say they don't have them because they don't feel like looking.

Thanks for the advice harry99. I was surprised too.

The electronics counter seemed to be the only staff that knew what was going on. They were sold out, and a call to the manager confirmed midnight madness cleared them out.

They really must not have gotten a lot of them in. Odd. My local store still had them as of Sunday (got mine that day at the info counter).

Have to disagree... many of the Monster Fighters are marked up; i.e.

Swamp Creature: LEGO 9.99 TRU n/a
The Mummy: LEGO 14.99 TRU 16.99
The Werewolf: LEGO 24.99 TRU 26.99
The Hearse: LEGO 44.99 TRU 44.99
Crazy Scientist: LEGO 64.99 TRU 69.99
Ghost Train: LEGO 99.99 TRU 99.99
Castle: LEGO 129.99 TRU 139.99

Like LOTR, I suspect that this is going to be more of a trend, not just "an odd set or two".
LEGO, it's not just a toy, it's an addiction... ;)
