Lack of Dino theme advertising
Is it just me or does TLG seem to be dismissing the Dino theme? Case in point is the latest catalog makes no mention of a single set. Is there not a lot of interest in the theme? I find the Dinosaur molds remarkable. Isn't that why most collect these types of sets for the unique and/or exclusive figures (i.e., Hulk "mini" fig)? The theme is relatively new considering I still see POTC, Cars, and AC sets still in circulation.
Re: Lack of Dino theme advertising
I don't know why, but it doesn't seem to be as big a hit as I thought it would be. I think LEGO has simply written it off. It could be due to the prices. They're necessarily higher per piece due to the size of the dinosaur molds, but I think your average parent is going to see it as gouging.
Good news for us, anyway, as we can probably pick them up at 50% clearance come the week between Christmas and New Year's at a LEGO Store this year

Re: Lack of Dino theme advertising
I wonder why Dino isn't coming back next year.
Re: Lack of Dino theme advertising
For each of the past few years it seems like LEGO has had at least one "one and done" (sometimes one and a half) theme that didn't fit into the town/castle/space categories.

I was going to say you left out Alien Conquest but that was town/space.

Re: Lack of Dino theme advertising
It would seem then that the MF theme is at risk of ending as well. I hope that is not the case because I'm really digging the MF theme as well. Interesting TLG took the leap to create a modular set with the haunted house. I suppose you can't really take the Dino theme any farther than the sets currently offered. Any wild ideas for a Dino set? A Dino train? (As if the market wasn't saturated enough with trains.)
Re: Lack of Dino theme advertising
I have read a few times MF is ending next year (although I don't know if it's fact or just informed speculation). I'm also a big fan of this series (it got me back into Lego), but with the story of using a limited number of moonstones they sort of painted themselves into a corner for new/different sets.francis_crowe wrote:It would seem then that the MF theme is at risk of ending as well. As for Dino theme, nothing has lept out at me as "must have". Some cool sets, for sure, but I haven't picked up any, and probably won't. Love the dinosaurs themselves, the rest just strikes me as lukewarm.
