Yay! Thanks for the info guys, I found several at both Wal*Marts in Lynchburg, VA. Got the only 2 at the one on Wards Road and saw several left at the Wally World on Old Forest Road. It rang up as $39.97 both times at the price scanner and register.

Only two at my local Wal-mart and I got both of them. Way too good a deal to pass on.
Re: [USA] Wal-Mart 60% off LEGO City The Mine Set
I'm a City collector and even so have a hard time justifying $40 for this set, let alone $100, even for parts. I'd be a little wary of the resale potential = it's really a pretty meh set with little in the way of reusability.
Re: [USA] Wal-Mart 60% off LEGO City The Mine Set
Thanks for posting this deal. I was already taking the kids out anyway to see the new Skylanders and picked up the last Mine set at my local store for $39+tax. Wasn't going to get these, but at that big of a discount I couldn't resist. It won't be much of a surprise on Christmas morning, but my kids will be thrilled anyway. Also found a HF Black Phantom for $7.

Well I hoping my gold claim pans out to be a winner and I strike it rich!

This was not a misprint. More like a lost leader. They are not as stupid as you think they are. They could have stopped the price very easily. Great price, sure.

It was a misprint, just like the Gandalf Arrives next to it. There's apparently been some internal WM corporate discussion about what to do, since some of the WM's near me had messages from corporate to pull until they could figure out a plan. I think since stock is fairly low at most locations (3 or less), they might just ride it out.zztoy wrote:This was not a misprint. More like a lost leader. I got to TRU about 30 minutes after they opened and the customer service girl told me she'd been on the phone since she got in with calls from people trying to find out about PM'ing the Walmart deal. She said they also had some word from TRU corporate not to PM since it was a misprint.
People still looking should check for those mid-aisle Lego displays they sometimes put up. I found a few stashed in those.

Picked up two at my local Wally at midnight this morning, had to get there as early as possible cause I didn't want to chance how Wally would deal with the misprint. Thanks OP! :)

Could have stopped does not mean loss leader. Why wouldn't they feature more prominently in ad , noting 60% off. And why not on cover. And why the other misprints like Gandalf Arrives?zztoy wrote:This was not a misprint. More like a lost leader. They are not as stupid as you think they are. When I looked at the other lego around, I spotted dozens of old ninjago spinners (the red packs). They had 2 skeletons, sensei wu and lord garmadon. I am willing to bet there are still tons of old lego stock sitting in the back of most walmarts.

Re: [USA] Wal-Mart 60% off LEGO City The Mine Set
awesome update
2 Walmarts I went too had already sold out or pulled the Mine, but I got lucky and TRU at West Mifflin (south pittsburgh) honored the price match.
$85.50 for 2 Mines and a bricktober volume 4 set.
This will make an excellent Christmas present for my nephew.
Thanks guys!

Also got a price match @ Toys R Us, and ended up with the 4th set of the 5 minifigures @ TRU.

Misprint? So no one is watching the house? Come on, someone's jobs must be to review all ads before they go out. Walmart corporate doesn't have a control like this in place? Hardly. When you think of Walmart, you probably think of the low wage earners there. Corporate is a bit different. This had to be planned. Even the receipts clearly show original price as $89 with the markdown. So tell me, how does a misprinted ad translate into their pos system also incorrectly? It's not a misprint and also a pos problem at the same time.

Exactly, I agree with you 100%.zztoy wrote:Misprint? So no one is watching the house? Come on, someone's jobs must be to review all ads before they go out. Walmart is just strategizing their Black Friday sales by having their sales early on all the "hot" lego sets (with what we saw during the crazy modulars/exclusives prices) so that consumers will be spending more at Wally now (when no one else is having sales) rather than having to compete with other Brick and Mortars and online retailers for your business on black friday. Even if Wally is selling everything at such a low price that there profit margin on each set is low, they are still moving a very high quantity of sets which leads to higher revenues.
In addition, Wally is clearing out old stock (modulars, exclusives etc.) or clearing out items that arn't selling well (such as the mine) to make room for all the new sets that will be hitting shelves in the next couple of months. So for them breaking even or losing a bit on the sale of sets that don't sell well, such as the mine, (which means nothing to them since they are the largest retailer in America) won't hurt them in the long run but rather help them with their customer loyalty goals cause when Black Friday comes along, more people will flock to Wally due to their great sale prices and happy consumer feelings from their earlier sales.
So basically not only does Wally win in the revenue and net profit department they win in the customer loyalty department as well. So all in all a great way to do business.
Re: [USA] Wal-Mart 60% off LEGO City The Mine Set
Really??? Did you look at the ad? What would you call the Gandolf set listed at over double retail? Thats not a misprint? Please explain....
Re: [USA] Wal-Mart 60% off LEGO City The Mine Set
lol that part clearly is a misprint, but how do you explain that when I scanned the gandolf set it was still at its regular price of $12 but when i scanned the mine set it was $40???pumbaugh wrote:Really??? Re: [USA] Wal-Mart 60% off LEGO City The Mine Set
If WM is willing to honor the printed deal, what's the problem? If these other jokers of retail stores doesn't want to own up to their price matching policies, more power to WM.pumbaugh wrote:Really??? Did you look at the ad? I couldn't agree more. This isn't the first time Walmart has had a dirt cheap set before Black Friday. They've done it several times before. I look forward to it every year.
Like kwkw said, if they can get all your Christmas shopping money now, you won't have any left over to spend with other retailers later.

I really wonder if this sort of strategy is not to toss this in the other retailers' court when (or if) they do not price match this. Amazon and WM have been doing the $9.99 to $9.98 to $9.97 to $9.96 "lower price" thing or basic price matching for a while now. It was probably only a matter of time before one or the other did the 50% off thing right out of the gate. I wouldn't be shock if WM turned this into a positive if it actually was a mistake. (Especially if others refuse to price match)kwkw wrote:Exactly, I agree with you 100%.zztoy wrote:Misprint? So no one is watching the house?
