Unfortunately it includes a 33% TRU markup.

Why is this set so popular?

(1) minecraft has a large passionate fan base, that (1b) is also likely fond of LEGO (if not an outright fan), and (2) early shortages ensured that every ebay flipper now has it on their radar to pick up for the holidays.

I've found few passionate lego fans that also like minecraft, but most every one I know that likes minecraft likes lego too.

I was unimpressed with the set when first announced, but after talking with minecraft fans I now understand the appeal. Getting multiple sets is often a no brainer, too, as then the brick-build minecraft world can be easily extended.

Just my 2c.

There are soooo many people on deal sites saying things like "I bought 15 of these, are they good to resell??" on top of the genuine demand by fans.

TLG said they would continue to have this set in-stock through the year to meet demand - although that was after a previous statement saying they were OoP, plus their website currently says Sold Out. Either way I'd say they are def. not meeting demand - more like adding to it intentionally by releasing small batches and releasing conflicting statements to the public. Seems more like what a super giant electronics company would do than a family based toy company. I say family based because they seem to still push that theme heavily in promotional material about TLG. I managed to get 2 sets and I happy but bummed to see so many missing out and pushed into the hands of resellers.

I don't get why the Lego Version of it is. Yea, I can see the Minecraft Fanboys buying the set... but.... isnt' Minecraft essentially Lego with Nintendo Graphics? So I don't see why many Lego fans are so hyped by it. It's a bunch of small 1x1, 1x2, and 2x2 pieces. Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't see anything enticing about the set... boring playability, no minifigures, no unique parts or colors.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.
