Quality of weapon accessories

I was trying to put some swords and bows on my figures and had a hard time. After a few tries, the handles of the weapons were deeply scarred. Am I doing something wrong, or are these weapon accessories just really soft plastic? I am really careful with my lego when building/playing and the damages I made to the accessories really bother me and am having a hard time getting over it (lol, a silly "1st world problem" I guess). :(

It can be like that sometimes. The weapons are in fact made of a softer plastic. I have the same neurotic issue sometimes, but I'm slowly learning to just take a deep breath and let it go. :)

A few months back, I accidentally lost a vintage brown bow down the garbage disposal when cleaning a batch of lego. :( Pulled it out and it was all chewed up and had to go in the trash. Only piece of Lego I've ever thrown out, but keeping it around would just torment me!

You're right, can't be too neurotic about this. :) At least the scarring is covered when the minifigure is holding the weapon, so it's not all that bad. That and I can pretend that the weapons have been heavily used in battle and the scarring is just weathering, lol.
