Toys R Us has for the past two or three years regularly priced Lego well above MSRP. Sometimes as much as 25% above MSRP. They offer a lot of sales as well, but the sale often does little more than offset this marked up price. It is a dishonest practice that has reduced the acceptance of TRU in the AFOL community.citizen wrote:Hey guys, I am not living in US, but I got relatives to but Lego for me there. I want to know what does "Toysrus mark-up price" mean? The sets I wanted to buy are 76000 and 76001, how much exactly will I have to pay after the discount? Thanks.

Unfortunately they get away from that pricing scams and still manage to stay in business, the last time I really wanted to get something from them and I was trying to do price match, th manager informed me that price match was not allowed during that week! When I returned back next week the prices in mutant ninja sets was ready to hit the ceiling. TRU is truly. It is a shame, when my SO would pester me to be her Chauffer and take her out shopping, one of my consolations was getting to go to TRU. I no longer bother to even go into the store anymore for the most part.
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
I wasn't even aware that TRU had such mark-up's etc before the last few months, TnB and comparing things. Prior to that we'd get gifts there, occasional clearance video games, the odd collectible or action figure (It's funny~ LEGO SAVED ME MONEY! Haha).NIGELTTF wrote:It is a shame, when my SO would pester me to be her Chauffer and take her out shopping, one of my consolations was getting to go to TRU. Now, although it bothers me a retailer I've grown up with across several states and 35+ years is somewhere I usually will NOT shop at, I still stop in there from time to time to "showroom". :)
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
The thing is was up until about three-ish years ago, their prices were MSRP, and sometimes lower. I first noticed the price hike with the Collectible Minifigs and it spread....and by now the stuff sold at MSRP is actually the minority of the Lego.The-Daryl wrote:I wasn't even aware that TRU had such mark-up's etc before the last few months, TnB and comparing things. The TRU 1000 peice bucket for $20.00 is missed. Particularly in the BUY2GET1FREE sale they used to have in September.

Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
TRU markups varies from set to set and even store to store. My TRU has Cafe Corner for $49.99 ... a 67% markup from all other stores' regular $29.99 price. They have Jabba's Palace for $149.99 (other stores $119.99), but the next TRU South has it for $169.99!
Most TRUs will have 76000 for $22.99 and 76001 for $44.99. You would need a $7.02 filler of LEGO to make it to $75. The best match would be a $11.99 set. $79.97 - $15 = $64.97. Or just get the sets for normal cost of ($19.99 + $39.99) = 59.98. Because the only "discount" is getting the $11.99 set ($9.99 reg price) for $4.99. You have to spend more to save and that's only worth it if you want that extra set. The other stores will frequently have their little sales for $2-$3 off each and that destroys this TRU sale.

SpaceNinjaDino, he could always throw in a few minifigures or a polybag and a minifigure to get up to the $75.
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
So in stores, 76000 and 76001 are much higher than $20 and $40?
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
I stopped in. They would not allow me to use both this coupon and the $20 off $100. I had a gift card and picked up the Duplo Ariel's Castle for $35 (coupon brought it down to MSRP), but I was shocked to see Desert Skiff at $35!! I just bought 2 at amazon.com for that price and they will come right to my door with no tax!

I know you didn't mean Cafe Corner for $49, but just thinking about that makes me happySpaceNinjaDino wrote:TRU markups varies from set to set and even store to store. I am currently Bricklinking CC and am almost finished, with just a few substitutions.
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
Does anyone have a link they can share for this $15 off $75 coupon? On the Toys R Us site I only see the $20 off $100, $10 off $60, and $5 off $30 in-store promotion...
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
I think it is in store only. I bought a combo of minifigures(series 9) and polybags(chima) to get over the $75. The $15 came off the total automatically. So no coupon was involved.
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
I presented the coupon and they said the computer will not add the additional discount, since the Lego were on sale. I did pick up two The Hobbit: The Barrel Escape 79004 for $79.48 out the door, so that was a little under retail price, even with the tax.Essien8 wrote:Does anyone have a link they can share for this $15 off $75 coupon? Prices online are much cheaper than the ones in store and in store will no honor their online prices.citizen wrote:Is there a place I can check out the price of a set in store? Or th eone saying "regular price" in the website is the price in stores?
AKA TRU is crap.
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
Maybe that's YMMV? Local TRU's here WILL adjust any price to TRU.com, but it will not stack with any other offer/coupon, etc - Even offers that specificallly do not have not combinable fine print (They consider it price match, even though it's not a competitor).Brick & Blue wrote:Prices online are much cheaper than the ones in store and in store will not honor their online prices.citizen wrote:Is there a place I can check out the price of a set in store? Call your local TRU on the phone in the first hour after they open on a weekday. (not in December, obviously)citizen wrote:Is there a place I can check out the price of a set in store? Or th eone saying "regular price" in the website is the price in stores?
They are always dead at that time and someone will just walk over and check the prices for you.
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
I use http://www.brickset.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as my main price guide. I can pull up any set by the # via my phone and check out the US based MSRP listed to see how much TRU is marking the price up. If that doesn't work, you can always go to Lego S@H (shop.lego.com) but seems to take longer. You can always think that Lego tries to stick to a $0.10 / piece price point so a set with 235 pieces should be $25, a 713 piece set $69.99, etc. Obviously some themes don't hold to this (Star Wars, etc.) but it's a good ball-parking guesstimation.citizen wrote:Is there a place I can check out the price of a set in store? I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.
Re: [USA] TRU $15 off $75+ Purchase In Store.
thank you for whoever suggested using $20 off on $100 purchase coupon. I was able to use both and made the deal so sweet!
