Modern Modular Furnished Beach Front House

Post by Bricksareforme » Sat Apr 13, 2013 1:15 am

Hello Lego enthusiasts! This is the first project I have ever made, which I published to Lego Cuusoo and it took me 6 months to make. The concept of this Lego House was inspired by a combination of the Monster Fighters Haunted House, Lego Friends, Lego Creator and Lego Architecture lines. I wanted to create a house that was “play-friendly”, but in a style of California Mid Century Modern Architecture. Photos and full description are on Cuusoo and the full set of photos are on Flickr:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricksare4me/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/37875" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and please DON'T BE TURNED OFF BY PINK! :-D I have included many other colour varients (see last picture). My whole premise is that I would like to see it in a girly girls room, to non girly room (boys-Lego does make gender neutral houses), to adult collections sitting among other buildings, to elaborate city landscape settings, to an architect's office or as decor, or any other professional (i have pictures posted to Architectural photo groups on flickr), to just a person who admires art, crafts, sculpture, and dollhouses! so its a wide range.

So if you would like to support it, please vote!

Thanks so much.

I've commented on Flickr and CUUSOO and now here. Great design!

I would lead with this pic, though. Looks like a shot from a vintage architecture magazine:

My only nitpick is that it's not really modular... unless it can connect with the other "modular" buildings (which I doubt, due to the fold-out hinge and 360°space design as opposed to the 'row house' style of the modulars) and/or the rooms can be rearranged or reconfigured akin to "Olivia's House" or the forthcoming "Heartlake High School" (which it doesn't look like).

I'm just a stickler for word usage - "modular" has become a bit of a buzz-word in the LEGO community, but a lot of times it's not used appropriately.

Very nice. That hinge gives it good playability like the Haunted House or doll houses.

Thank u! Good observations and suggestions. And I agree. I actually took over 300 photos, and wittled it down to 25...phew! And i do like the one you reposted above the best, cus just like u said. And yeah, i can see that the word "modular" is now used very loosely. I guess i took modular, in this case to mean it can go side by side with the current modulars....(hinged monster fighters HH was put beside or near modulars in someones collection on a web pic) and its self is not as modular as the modulars that r out... :crazy:

Oh! Forgot to add, thank u for visiting all the links! I very much appreciate it and your comments.

Fantastic job. I'm impressed. I like how the house has hinges so it opens up and makes it more playable. The kitchen and the bathroom are especially impressive designs since they are much harder to do than the outdoors. :up: :clap:

I like how you integrated Emma's design Studio kit into this design. I could see that someone might want to modify this beach house design to integrate another kit, e.g. Olivia's Inventor's workshop ..

In the Architecture world, a modular home refers to the fact that it is built by pre assembled components in a kit like fashion in much the same way as a Lego Kit. However, in the Lego world, a modular building is a urban-city building or row house like architecture. I agree with an earlier comment that saying modular could get people sort of confused. Either way - I really like your Beach house design.

suggestions:
Being a CARB state, might I suggest an Electric Smartcar with its own charging station? Yeah I know - its pushing the green thingy a bit but you need to balance out all that pink with something! This reminds me of this lady in California who is famous for running a hybrid repair shop called Luscious Garage. :-)

Being a Lego gear head, I my first urge would be to modify your masterpiece by install electrical lighting via fiber optics...and replacing your staircase with an elevator.... :mrgreen: :geek:

Thank u very much. I really do appreciate your detailed observations and suggestions. Wow, people r coming up with terrific ideas! Actually your suggestion of an electric car is ahead of its time! I am actually in process of publishing a pic with a lego smart car (not my design, legos design). But, hey, adding a charging station is a terrific idea.....hmmmm seriously considering that.....and "luscious garage", gonna google it. Luv that name.

Amazingly, your suggestion of integrating Olivias inventors shop is already done! Her workshop, unmodified, is already there. It is located right beside the dining room, on the groundfloor, below the craftroom. I didnt indicate it because it was difficult to photograph it. However, i think i will now modify some photos and label this area.

And the funny thing is Ive already asked a friend to rig it with electrical lighting! Dunno if it will be done, but its a good idea anyways. And elevator, wow, cool! Lololol hey why not? It can be a super deluxe mansion!

Im a geek too. No wonder our ideas cross! Great minds think alike :lol:

Thanks!

This is so amazingly awesome!!! You have my admiration and support on Cuusoo. I want one! :shock:

Funny, but I think this will appeal to brick fanatics of many types. I foresee mine with a slightly different color being overrun by zombies :lol:no

LOLOL! :lol: thats hilarious! And totally do-able, you realize. Hmmm....perhaps grey or dark grey house/house trim....throw in some zombies enjoying the roof lap pool, and some terrorizing the owner inside the house :-D

And thanks for your admiration and support!

Voila! I had this pic in my files but neglected to upload it. But here it is...a smart car! (minus a charge station for now) :-D and Olivia's Workshop is indicated.

I just photoshopped the House in a neutral light grey. It is not an accurate representation. Its only to give an idea of how it would look in an alternate colour.
