Opinion needed about POTC Boats

Post by Mrbill317 » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:52 am

Due to financial issues I need to part with my two POTC Pirate Ships.
Both are in sealed boxes with very good condition boxes.

Should I sell them separately or together on ebay? I wish I could hold on just in case another movie comes out but I need to sell soon.

What do you think I can get for them?

If you need to get rid of them due to financial issues, then I would say you should go ahead and sell them now. The next PotC isn't scheduled until 2015, which would generate higher interest and therefore a higher price, but you would be waiting 2 years to get that bump. I think the ships will go up in value over time, but I don't think they will ever get past $150-$200 (not many ships have). So essentially for the time value of money, it makes sense to sell now.

As to if you should sell together or apart, I highly recommend selling them individually, but possibly adding comments in your description that you have the other Ship for sale as well, and if someone buys both, you can combine shipping to save. If you bundle them, people will be expecting a discount IMO, and it would be a higher price point so fewer interested parties.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

I don't see either going up any more until winter hysteria sets in. BP might inch up, but QAR has plateaued for now.

I had a 2nd QAR that I was going to keep for for my Armada... tossed it up on BL for $200 and it sold recently... I was happy with that, and didn't figure it would go up more than that.

I agree with Luciant and brickarmor. I don't think the aftermarket value will change much in the foreseeable future. The POTC boats have all but disappeared from shelves. If you're in need of the cash, I would sell them now. I would also say to sell them separately, while noting in the post that you will "combine shipping" if a buyer purchases more than one item from you.

I think the only time it's better to combine items is when some of the items are low enough value such that they're hard to sell on their own... but added to other items they match will at least complement the more desirable items. But that's not your case since both items should be straightforward to sell and high enough in value that you wouldn't want to scare off buyers buy making the lot too pricey and out of their reach.

I would also suggest maybe trying to sell on Bricklink if you can stomach it. But then time becomes a factor. I only suggest that because BL has fees of around 3-5% based on item value whereas eBay is 9%.

Take good photographs for your listing! In focus and plenty of natural light at least. Good luck.

I obtained 3 boxes of Queen Anne's Revenge at a Walmart last week for 39.99 each. I've put them all on Ebay and 2/3 have sold for over 200.00 already as of this posting.

I've seen them each sell for around 200.00 and I saw a few bundles of TBP and QAR sell for 400.00.

Either way, I think they've mostly hit their peak for the time being and agree with the others.

Yes. I asked an employee where all this heavily discounted stuff came from. They said they "emptied an old container in the back". They put the stuff on SUPER clearance. I also snagged a Battle of Helm's Deep for 29.99 the day before. Both times they had to call a customer service manager over each time to key in the price discounts manually.

They also had some other heavily discounted sets that I did not purchase. 3 days later, when I returned to check on them, they had gone back to more normal clearance prices, so I assume the heavy clearance was in error and I pulled the trigger at the perfect time.
