Fire Brigade 10197 and Town Hall 10224 Retiring soon?

Post by petersnell » Mon Oct 07, 2013 9:04 am

I was speaking with the Manager at the Lego store in Vancouver and was told that they are not being shipped by Lego any more Fire Brigades or Town Halls, although they are for now still available online. Sounds like those 2 sets may be close to retiring...anyone else heard any rumours about these sets retiring?

I haven't heard anything about the Town Hall, but the Fire Brigade rumor has been going around a while. It is the oldest currently available modular so that one makes sense to me. The Town Hall is more expensive then the other modulars so maybe it isn't selling well.

If you are looking to see which one to buy, I would go for FB since it's the oldest one as hatcher mentioned.

I would be really surprised if the TH goes before the FB.

As Hatcher mentioned, the talk of the FB being discontinued has been going on for a year now (the reason that prompted me to purchase it), and it still hasn't been taken off the shelves by LEGO.

LEGO normally keeps the past two years and this year's sets for the big Creator sets and the winter sets.

So Town Hall should have one more year, but maybe the price point it's just not selling at your store.

The fire station should be long gone but no one wants it.

My store hasn't received Fire Brigades for months but Town Halls are still coming in. How exactly did he say they weren't being shipped anymore? TLG hasn't shipped any lately? TLG won't ship anymore, ever?

I would not be surprised if both of these sets are now out of production (at least Fire Brigade) and must shuffle out the remaining inventory. With the Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, Cinema, and now Restaurant, there are too many modulars compared to historic availability. They use to only have 3-4 available with the oldest 4th one on the way out. Grand Emporium is older than Town Hall, but I can see LEGO having a harder time with selling Town Hall.

I am surprised Fire Brigade is still around as I thought it was going to disappear last year. I was able to pick up a few copies for ~109 each when some amazing sells were going on. Funny how I have most copies of my least favorite modular, but it was all about price.

The Town Hall is pretty expensive making it harder to sell.
IMHO the Fire Brigade Modular sales suffers from having to compete with the cheaper City Fire Station.
I think the Parisian Restaurant will have the same problem competing with the Friends store front series...

I have personally have gotten rid of all my Fire Brigades 10197 as Lego has just printed too many. There are too many flippers holding on to them and will keep the price stagnated too long. Lego printed many rounds knowing investors would be buying, and quite frankly successful at basically smiling at investor suckers. I sold any of what I had a couple of years back when I posted the information on this, some challenged me that It was on its way out ( about to retire then), and you could tell they were producing these like no tomorrow. Good luck and be careful. :)

Yeah that would be me. I am a newbie and late to the game but I figured with my red card discount not much of a risk. I have 4 UPS deliveries coming today.
