To place a sticker? or Not!

Heres a quick question...When you purchase a lego set what are your thoughts on placing stickers... or to not place the stickers?

Do you buy 2 sets? build 1 and organize the other pieces? (If you can afford that? if not then what?)

Or do you build the set and then disassemble, and the sticker pieces are just collateral damage (Thats what i do!)


Any thoughts on this would be great (Where do you get replacement stickers if you do need a piece for another build?)

Depends on the set. If I plan to keep it together for a long time and it looks better with stickers, I'll apply the stickers. Otherwise, I file away the stickers in a folder.

For me it depends on the coolness factor of the sticker and the piece it's being applied to. If it's a rare piece and a sub-par sticker, I usually won't apply the sticker. If it's a rare piece and cool looking sticker, I might apply the sticker. If it's a cool looking sticker and a piece I already have in abundance, or can acquire easily/cheaply, I usually will apply the sticker.

I apply stickers on all my sets. As of now, I have mostly all of my sets assembled and stored in a cabinet. In the future I might disassemble them and use them for MOCs.

I used to apply stickers (if any) on ALL the sets I own--then one day it occurred to me removing stickers would be a hassle when I cannibalize sets for parts. As a result, I stopped applying them on later sets after building the AC defense unit.

Vynsane, WOW! Sounds like you put alot of though into placing a sticker on a kit.
Im with LegoBrandon, I like to see all the kits put completely together in all its stickered up glory exactly how "LEGO" intended it to be put together. And with some kits just as soon as i am done building i start to dissasemble!
Any thoughts on getting replacement stickers?

HA! It sounds like it, doesn't it? In actuality there's very little thought involved - during building, it's more just gut feeling. I've applied the above rationalization after the fact in order to explain how my gut feelings tend to be swayed

Depends on the piece and the sticker. If the sticker limits the versatility of the piece too much then I don't use it. If it's on more than one piece then I'll usual cut the sticker so that the pieces can be disassembled still. On very rare occasion like on the Jabba’s Sail Barge with 2x3 tile sized stickers I just went ahead placed them. Them when I shredded the set I just put a 2x3 plate behind the stickered tiles.

I have yet to place any stickers on my models. I don't think I have accumulated enough to afford losing a versatile piece to a sticker. Maybe when I get a bigger collection or get something I want to display I will but that's not today.

I have a few ( my wife would sarcastically repeat "A few!") trains and i definitely like to display these sets with all the stickers applied. Especially the Maersk Train!

Most of the time I apply the stickers. It really depends upon if I think it makes the model look better.

I thought LEGOs were just for storing? People still assemble sets? What's it like on the inside of a LEGO box?????

I only apply stickers to the pieces which were NOT rare, or the set that I may keep it for display for a while, or the stickers could make the set way outstanding.

I sticker everything. I would never get back to doing it if I didn't do it on the initial build. The sets look better with them. I have enough pieces where I don't think it would ever be an issue of needing a part with a sticker already on it. If so, I would probably just buy the needed piece if needed for a moc w/out a sticker :P

I don't sticker anything. Sure the sets look a little nicer with the stickers but meh, I would rather have the pieces have more appeal.

I haven't stickered since around 2000. Back then, there were few stickers. However, I've been wanting to create my own stickers (unless I can outsource printing on specific non-flat pieces) for MOCs. I'll slowly look in to it over the next year.

I like putting on the stickers. If I don't, I'll feel like I didn't complete it. And if I need the piece after disassembling, I just peel off the sticker.

I almost NEVER apply stickers. Occasionally I will but most of the time I do not. I do keep the sticker sheets though in case I want to add them in the future or use the stickers for a MOC. For the most part I hate stickers but I have bought one via bricklink because I liked it and wanted to use it in a MOC

I don't like how the stickers peel after several years. Many of the ones with stickers that have been displayed for a while tend to have cracked stickers. That's something I keep in mind before I put on a sticker.
