Walmart Clearance

Walked into a Winnipeg Walmart tonight and found 7 Epic Dragon Battles (9450) for $60 and 5 Attack of the Wargs (79002) for $20. Purchased 1 of each but I'm thinking I should of bought more from an investment standpoint. The minifigs alone should be worth what I paid. I haven't come across any good Lego Clearances at Walmart for a while. I also haven't seen set 9450 on the shelf for months. Old back room stock maybe?? I wasn't expecting any more good Lego clearances until after Christmas. With new Ninjago sets coming 9450 may be a good set to put a few away. What do you think, should I go back for more??

wow I would buy all the 79002's... Gonna check my walmart tomorrow for that one.

Pick up all of the 79002s! Even on it's own, it's a great set but it has a very good chance to end up having wargs as an exclusive which will drive it's value up! $20 for that set is really a good deal… It shows as $45 on Clearance at a few GTA stores.

Set 79012, one of the Hobbit sets about to be released will have a single brown warg. The white and gray wargs will (for now, at least) be exclusive to 79002. No wargs are rumored for the LOTR summer sets, but the last Hobbit movie sets might have some.

Thanks for the help. I went back and picked up the 79002's. Still not sure about the 9450's. I noticed on Ebay that the price's on this set as well as the minifigs has come down. Short term the 9450 doesn't look great to even part out, but long term may pay off. Still it's significantly more money to lay out.

I'd personally stick to stronger licenses for investment. Ninjago is doing well now but outside Lego fans, there is no support for it. The license stuff give you a wider market and their valuation is more predictable. LOTR will probably outdo even Harry Potter due to the far wider appeal. Just look at how long LOTR books have been around and how strong they've been selling through the years!

The Hobbit will also ensure continued interest for the next 6-8 years in the primary market so overall I think right now LOTR is one of the best series in Lego lineup for investment. Just my $0.02.

Looks like you got a smoking deal even for walmart. Figured out how to work there website now and looks like almost all the other walmarts were clearing them out at $45 but that particular one was $20 for some reason. Wish the walmarts in BC were like yours !

They were actually $45 at this Walmart as well for about the last 2 months. I was determined to wait for 1 more price drop thinking they may go down to $30-$35. Didn't expect $20 and was quite surprised!

I'm really curious as to how to work their website. You mean you can check prices through an App? I understand you can do this in the US but I didn't thing you could do it in Canada. It would sure save a lot of running around if I knew what the various Walmarts were selling a particular set for. Maybe this is common knowledge and I'm just clued out??

you can check the price on any specific item at any specific walmart in all of canada.

You search the item by name or product number click the item itself, then scroll down to the "store availability" section. then just below that is a Other locations link click it and in the search bar type your city and it picks the closest 4 walmarts to that city and lists the prices at each location and if they have stock

When I did a search of winnipeg to try to get my walmart to price match (Which failed they wouldn't price match it) it showed only the Mcphilips St & Court Ave location had it at that price and its now out of stock.

Picked up 9675 Sebulba's Podracer and Tatoonie for $5 at the Steels - Markham Rd Walmart in GTA. There is still 5-6 left. Have to sift through the Clearance shelves in the Toy section to find them.

Yup… Unfortunately it was the only Series I set left. The AT-ST + Endor from Series II was also $8 but only one with a discolored box left.

Got 2 there were 6 left.
