1. Wolverine's Chopper Showdown (6866)
2. Spider-man Doc Ock Ambush (6873) (retiring soon)*
3. Star Wars Droid Escape (9490)
4. The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape (6857)
5. Any Lone Ranger sets (all retiring soon except cavalry builder set)*
1, 3 & 4 are NOT marked as "retiring soon" but I can't find them in stores and they are very difficult to find online.
1) Wolverine's chopper is a great set with 3 great minifigures (Wolverine, Magneto and Deadpool). Deadpool is very popular at them moment. But then again he has had a big fanbase for many years now. He was one of my favs in the 90's. I was very surprised to see him in the set. Rumor has it both Wolverine and Magneto may appear again soon in a LEGO set (Storm character as well). BTW those of you trying to snatch up Captain America figures... he is supposed to be in a future set with Red Skull although it appears they will change his minifigure somewhat. IF Wolverine and Magneto reappear in other sets Wolverin'es Chopper Showdown's value will be affected BUT keep in mind Deadpool's appearance in the set. I checked 2 Target stores, 1 Wal-mart and 1 ToysRus yesterday while out shopping. I couldn't find this set in any of them. Online I can find it but only at high prices.
2) Doc Ock Ambush has Iron Fist. Not a character that I have to have but he could become a hot item in the future. Doc Ock is scheduled appear again(very different printing though) in Doc Ock Truck Heist along with Spiderman and a guard. Not a set that I will invest in unless i find it very very cheap (unlikely)
3) Star Wars Droid Escape I also couldn't find at any of the stores that I mentioned. R2D2 and C3PO are FAR from exclusive to this set but the 2x Stormtroopers are wonderful. They have been selling for $5 each 9or more) for quite sometime. They are really really well done classic stormtroopers that I can see fans still valuing years from now. I need to buy at least one of the troopers for my collection. They look great
4) For those of you that have noticed my recent posts about the Dynamic Duo set.. forgive me. It has not been officially identified as retiring but it was "sold out" at LEGO shop at home. It is a toysRus exclusive so its available from LEGO or TRU. It was released Dec 2011. Its been around for sometime now. There is another Joker set scheduled (Joker with steamroller). It may be disappearing soon to make way for the Steamroller set. Dynamic Duo's pro's... 5 figures and nice build. Harley Quinn and the Riddler are somewhat rare. Harley has only appeared in a few (including the 1st Batman sets) and each time the minifigure has been revamped. Same for the Riddler. He is appearing in the Riddler's chase but its a very different minifigure. This particular Robin also is almost exclusive to Dynamic Duo (31066 polybag with motorcycle being an exception). This particular Joker looks very similar to another scheduled to appear soon in a LEGO Juniors set. He is a nice figure though. Batman.. yet another batman but keep in mind he is classic design and MOST sets kept things fresh with batman variants. On the downside it appears LEGO batman may be around for sometime (more and more sets in future). I'm happy but keep in mind the demand for the 1st Batman sets are bc they didn't stick around. The new Nightwing figure will probably overshadow demand for Robin figure for a short period). All in all... great set that includes 5 very well done figures and all are essential characters in the Batman theme. It may be leaving soon.. maybe not.
5) Lone Ranger... I don't think they will do that well as investments... but if you are are into Western theme that do have some great items/minifigures for future MOC's. I may grab one of the Stagecoach Escape because I really like the Stagecoach IF I can find it at a discount. It is marked as "retiring soon" and I couldn't find it in stores while shopping yesterday. If you want it you'll want to watch for it. I still regret waiting too long to snatch up 1 Uruk-Haii Army.
Keep in mind these are just my thoughts. I'm not advising anyone to invest in LEGO or these sets in particular but these are some sets that I found interesting. Thanks for reading
*LEGO shop at home labeled these as retiring soon
