LEGO Store event questions

Post by Mom2Nate » Thu Oct 07, 2010 6:12 pm

I received an email that LEGO stores will be having an event to celebrate LEGO Universe this Saturday. Do these kind of events happen regularly? My husband is thinking of taking the kids and we really do not know what to expect in terms of crowds, activities, and such. Any info would be helpful. I have already checked out the info on the LEGO stores website. Thanks :)

I've changed the title of this topic to something more generic, as we're already discussing LU and the launch party over here but I feel this is a good general purpose info topic.

The only events I've attended have been grand openings, which are pretty nuts. There are "Monthly Mini Model Build" events (naturally, every month), but my daughter's too young to participate so I don't know much about those. Special events like the LEGO Universe Launch Party aren't too common, so I'd imagine the turnout would be something between a grand opening and MMMB, not that that helps, but at least it's a best guestimate.

Theres really nothing special other than some extra exclusive freebies with certain amount of purchase. With huge lineups and crowds, its not worth it if you don't like the mini store exclusives.

My husband took the kids to the Orlando store, and there wasn't much going on. A real disappointment for the children. They had a booth set up with a survey and of course the purchase with purchase, but nothing as advertised on the store website. It's a good thing they had planned on pin trading in Downtown Disney or the day would have been a bust.

The Houston store was pretty busy. The Lego Universe exclusive was pretty cool, especially if you've played the game, you'll recognize the lego universe rocket as it's the vehicle you use to get from world to world. Pretty neat, IMO.

They also had a bunch of Grab Bags available which are always great, and the double points rewards.
