Bricktober 500 TRU Event

I took my son and daughter to the Bricktober 500 event today at TRU. It was definitely worth the trip for all the free LEGOs. The kids were each given wheels, axels, and bases. Then they could pile as many bricks on top as they wanted! My local store did not have enough room to set up a race track, but it was still a great event.

We took my son today as well. They had two tracks and plenty of legos for all the kids. This is the 1st lego race we've been to but we did another TRU lego event earlier in the year. I can't remember what it was for but TRU was pushing the Lego games.

Our TRU store is kind enough to have drawings for the kids to win previous Lego store displays. Last time my son won the skeleton boat from 7029. Didn't win this time.

My only complaints are that it's always chaotic with little structure and this time people were cheating on the drawing. One family had put each child's name in the bucket several times. I know this because their kids had won during the 1st drawing and left but their names continued to be drawn for the other drawings. The clerk realized it, but can't do anything about it now. The chances of my son winning today were small because of the approx. 50+ other kids. So i'm not upset he didn't win, it's just that people really p!$$ me off when they take a fun innocent thing like this and ruin it for their own gain.

You mean like the 40-50 something man with no kids who had the best looking racecar there? I didn't have a problem with adults participating...until they ran out out of axles, then wheels and this dude's got like 2 PAB cups worth of bricks on his base. The kids usually enjoy the events though, so it's worth the trip.

Well I was at my local stores Bricktober 500 event and had a car built (Racer X) with a bunch of bricks on (less then a PAB cups worth), but on the other hand I was running the event and the car was for the early kids to race, unfortunately we ran out of the base vehicle supplies so I cannibalised poor Racer X so another kid could race, stupid LEGO sent us half the supplies they did last time and there was nothing left, also didn't help that some parents built their kids car about 12 inches high or so of LEGO, just stacking no shape no nothing just a big tall tower, unfortunately nothing I could do but give them dirty looks since the instructions for the event only required they not be more then 6 inches long or wide, this was all that was left of the event.

I liked it.
My daughter loved it.
She actually won a couple of the races with her car.
I won the only 1 I ran.
