Minifigure trading at LEGO Discovery Center(s)

I believe this is something new(ish) for Chicago. Legoland in Florida has always had this policy, but when I asked at the Chicago Discovery Center (granted, it was about 2 years ago) after we had returned from Florida whether they had the same policy, I was told no, except for special designated trading days. Good to know! My son loves trading minifigs.

I think the LEGO Stores should do this on Thursdays or something (Some slow day) for us LEGO fans smart enough not to have little devils and can't get in the Discovery Centers.

I did this at the Boston Discovery Center this past summer. I took my plain minifigs and got Homer, the Bumble Bee CMF, and a vampire hunter from the Monster Fighters line.

Haven't tried this at a discovery center but am hoping to check it out at Legoland California this summer. I was just there on a shopper's pass but the only person I dealt with had a figure with a missing head. Hopefully we'll have more luck when we visit for the day and I'm not trying to be out in an hour.

I'm wondering if they do this at Legoland and LDC because they're run by Merlin and they're hoping people buy new minifigures on site when people are there, since it's usually a vacation type place where people can't just go home and come back later with their minifigures. I also get the feeling from reading online that it's for kids only, although the official page doesn't mention an age limit. I just imagine an adult collector would be trying to get all the good stuff, although I'm guessing most of the figures there are Frankensteins made by other kids. It would be cool if they had it at the LEGO store but I imagine it wouldn't cause that many additional sales because people would just go home to get the less desirable figures to trade and it'd eventually Peter out. They could have a trading night between customers but it might turn into one of those scenarios like at Disneyland where people take up a large amount of room to stand around trading and there's not a lot of spare space at the local store, unless they made people trade outside the store like at Disneyland with the pin traders at buzz light years store.
