So the new format worked great for us. We arrived 5 minutes early (we looked around for a few minutes), and she received her set and finished building by 3:03. Not having to wait in that long long line was fabulous! I liked having a pre-set time and the store was very manageable to shop afterwards, I used to avoid shopping on MMB night in the past.
They did require that you build it in store (which I am fine with and agree totally).
One random question....are they giving out the business sized card with the picture of the set and the piece inventory? I totally forgot about it and we did not receive one. I suppose it's not necessary now that they have a list of who is coming etc.
Post your experiences here....
New Format for Monthly Mini Model Build - how was it?
Re: New Format for Monthly Mini Model Build - how was it?
We didn't go, other plans got in the way. I have to call them today to see if there is any possibility of them saving the model for my daughter. I also still need to get the Episode V poster, hopefully they still have them. They had a slew of the Episode IV posters when we went to May's MMMB, but that promo had just ended the day before. We're now talking two weeks since the end of the latest promo.
Interesting that you find it difficult to shop during/after the MMMB - I've never found that to be the case at Danbury, nor The Westchester before that, but maybe they're just not as high-traffic. There's rarely a large line/crowd by the time we get there, but as it's ~35 mins away from us we usually get there just before it's winding down.
I feel the only real benefit of the registration process is that you're guaranteed to get the set - we had a few times where they "ran out" (aside from those they had to save for the LEGO Club meetings, anyway) before we got there. In those instances, however, we actually sometimes got the previous month's model at the next MMMB if they still had leftovers or received more from another store or something. I don't think we have a gap since we started going last year for the Micro Manager model.
I'm interested to hear what others think of the new format, too.

From listings I've seen on eBay, the cards do exist. I do know, however, that some stores had stopped using them (as long ago as September 2014 (give or take)), so it would not surprise me if fewer and fewer stores use them.atmail35 wrote: One random question....are they giving out the business sized card with the picture of the set and the piece inventory? I also noticed, in those same listings, that some people ARE able to get a sealed set out of the store, without building it in store. Hmmm.
