As of yesterday evening, they are down to 7 boxes. I picked one up for myself and two friends to share. I'll likely keep the remaining figures for my daughter and I to actually play with instead of collect!

My local Target put out ANOTHER two boxes on top of the original two. It looks like they stocked up a lot better on this series than the other ones. I did not stop to confirm if they were of new stocking though.

The MS3 haven't been restocked in my area at all. I did go to a nearby city and found a treasure trove of them tho. I had the time to semi-pick through some at TRU and nabbed 3 Elves.. those are the only ones i can nail for sure, plus I love elves =) Im thinkin Im gonna try to snipe a few Aliens, Samuarais, Elves, Cyborgs, and Fisherman... those are my favs. After a few more I'm done though... so frustrating going through tons of bags..

I at least bring my opened bags that I've labeled so I can compare the unopened ones to the bags I KNOW what came out of :) Works pretty well, but you do get ton's of wtf looks.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

i wouldn't do that. the codes have changed. at one target, a box had the old codes and another had the new codes. i went ahead and mixed them up. after looting all the elves of course. :D if you use the old elf codes you would have gotten yourself a bunch of rappers. :D

Ya I just sifted through a few boxes and realized they changed the codes. The dots are still somewhat accurate, but the spacing has definately changed. I say  cuz i ended up getting 6 rappers instead of the 6 elves I thought i got ;) Fortunately I did want an extra rapper, so I only opened 1.

Now I just look for certain combos/areas for a specific dot and then molest the package a little to try confirm specific pieces to identify... WHY LEGO WHY!

Aliens are still easy to pick... Elves aren't so bad.. but now they changed the rappers to be VERY similar.
Fisherman are kind of a pain, but I think I've got them down too.

Evil Cyborgs and Samurai I can't seem to figure out tho....

The pinch and squeeze method is the fastest way to go if you can memorize all of the accessories. The fisherman is the easiest: Bend the package in half in all directions (x,y,z), the fishing pole is so long that you will feel it bend.

I agree that it's the best method. See I'm still a believer in the dots.. somewhat. For the ones that have dots that are in "unique" positions, I will run through and look for those to pull them out, then pinch/squeeze/molest them to feel for the parts. Just pull the base plate to one side, and let the other pieces fall, and feel for the small pieces.. easy to feel around for a banana, baseball bat, indian headress, shield, maracas for hulu (spelling), etc... easier to identify the smaller unique shapes IMO. For elves, the shield is a dead giveaway.

I can't figure out the Samuari... I can't ever seem to feel out their longsword which should be easy.

Any tips for getting Cyborgs or Samuari on consistant basis? :)

I think the cyborg is tough because it seems like there are less of them. But I did manage to feel it a few times.
Here are my tips. First off, get the baseplate out of the way by moving it up to the top corner of the bag. Pinch the corner of the baseplate and shake the bag. This should release the loose accessories to the bottom of the bag. For the cyborg I found that feeling for the peg leg is too hard. I did it one of two ways. I would pinch until I found a helmet visor. Then feel around until I found a stick, or vice versa. If I felt hair...game over...race car driver. If I felt a giant head with two round things sticking out...game over...alien, back in the box you go :D

For the Samurai, I I only felt him a few times. but when I did it was pretty obvious. Don't try and look for the sword first. it will drive you crazy. It is too thin to feel well through the bag and folded up check list. Try feeling for the helmet first. It's got a bunch of ridges and things poking out of it. One thing to look out for is that It feels a bit like the mummy's scorpion.

I only bought one of each of the MFS3s and the only duplicates I got were two hula girls. I though her maraca was the rappers mic. So now I have two hulas and no rappers! My method works pretty well. I almost felt like putting post it notes on the packages as i was throwing them back! Maybe I will next time.

For the Cyborg, feel for the "laser" bar. AS far as I can tell only the alien and the cyborg have a piece like that.

the cyborg i feel first for the lazer bar then the visor to the helmet to differentiate from the alien. Also, the little claw hand piece is unique to this fig, its small but if you find it, you know you got the cyborg. With the samuri, i think the sword is easiest because its long but flimsy and has a handle (dont mistake for the spear on the indian, feel for his head dress, its easy to find) The helmet and armor are pretty bulky too so you can easily rule out figs that dont have bulky parts.

Just on a side note, I wish the samuri had horns or something to go on his helmet.

The stick I was refering to really is the laser bar. Laser bar is a better way to describe it. Once you feel that you are homefree because the alien is super obvious.

I saw S3 at Borders (Legacy Place, Dedham, MA) this week at the checkout counter. They were $3.99 which is way too expensive, but if you use a 33% off or 40% off coupon (see Border's thread in Sales and Deals), you could get it for under MSRP.

I guess the only issue is that you can only buy one at a time b/c the coupon is only good on one item. But if you are only looking for a few it might be worth it.

For the Cyborg, find for the legs and then feel for the peg leg - works every time. For the Samurai, try to find the armor. You can feel the two shoulder pads and you can also feel the flexible armor - if you pinch it it will flex and I don't think any other big square part will flex like that.

Brilliant! Didn't think about that... i feel slow :P I kept thinkin for the Cyborg you have to go for the cylinder (which you can confuse with the baseball player and alien)... pegleg.. duh. I was thinking either the armor or helmet for the samurai should make him easy to pull, but I had previous tried for the sword.. figured the long katana has to take up the whole package similar to the fishing pole...

New display at my local Wal-Mart, I haven't seen anything but the standard box of 60 before, this was not in the Lego aisle, it was an end cap a few aisles down.

NJ in paramus still has a boatload. They received 20 boxes for their first delivery on this series vs 6 boxes for 1 and 2. Lego increased their production run but sales hasn't caught on. But I still see people buying them. Mostly parents

Hmm.. with this 'flooding the market' do you think the Minis will drop in value?

Anyone know if they have a 3rd set of packages or if it is one of the two originals? Assuming they've removed the Dots on the bottom of these completely ? The 2nd 'wave' of these had different / missing dots so assuming they are toast now.

nope. they changed the dots again. elfs and sumos share the same dots for the 3rd wave. elfs and rappers shared the dots for the 2nd wave.

I also have found the two Lego Stores I frequent have had a steady supply this time vs w/ series 2 I had to call to see if they got a shipment or if they were expecting more.

I assume it's a factor of a bigger production run and the increase in price causing them to be available. I wish they would go back to a $1.99 price point though.
