Hard to Find Minifigures?

Post by sketchman » Sun May 25, 2014 5:50 am

I just noticed last night that one of the SW sets had printed on the box "Includes 2 Hard To Find" minifigures...are there a lot of new sets labeled as such?

What set is it? This is usually a marketing ploy - obviously LEGO controls which sets have which figures, so they're creating a shortage of supply on purpose and then drumming up the "hard to find" aspect.

I don't remember what set, but I believe it had Rex and Obi Wan in it along with 2 battle droids...I just had never seen that on a Lego box before and thought it strange.

In my experience "Hard to Find" means that the figures in question are only in that set. Or only in that set and a REALLY expensive set like the Death Star. Its a marketing ploy. Licensed theme sets are mini figure driven. Lego knows that the figures are the main draw (not for everyone, but still) so they put "Hard to Find" or "Exclusive" labels on the sets to draw attention to the set. And it works. :)

That's how they confuse parents and grandparents who don't know any better to by these sets.
