Ugly side door with all those oddly shaped brick sides. Why not make the sides a bit more uniform?
$100 for a non-minifigure 1077p creator-like set???? Looks like it's a rip-off just like the fairground set. $79.99 would be a better price. Pass.
How do you justify a 4" x 6" model for $100! This is only slightly bigger than minifigure size, lol. Even uses minifigure sized wine glasses.

The size does seem a bit small for what you get, but keep in mind, you are paying for the licence too. I think it is a fair price.stevebuscemi wrote: $100 for a non-minifigure 1077p creator-like set???? Looks like it's a rip-off just like the fairground set. $79.99 would be a better price. Pass.

$99.99 / 1077 pieces = $0.09 per piece for a licensed set. That's a pretty darn good deal if you ask me.stevebuscemi wrote:$100 for a non-minifigure 1077p creator-like set???? Looks like it's a rip-off just like the fairground set. $79.99 would be a better price. Pass.

Re: 10242 MINI Cooper MK VII LEGO Revealed
I love it, but will not be buying it.
My issue with the set, is actually an issue with LEGO. When the VW Beetle was released years ago it was all studish and ugly as hell because of that. LEGO wouldn't let the designers use tiles because the company wanted the studs that say 'LEGO' on them showing.
I honestly rather have LEGO remake the Beetle without studs than another new car.

lol, you are one of those people who buy into the "if it's under $0.10 it's a good deal". LEGO preys on people like yourself by bloating piece count with many small pieces in today's sets (i.e. 10144 vs. 75059). Look at the weight and size to find real value. If you look at it this way you'd agreed it's overpriced.Mantisking wrote:$99.99 / 1077 pieces = $0.09 per piece for a licensed set. True it's licensed, but I can easily get licensed sets with lots of minifigures for $0.05-0.06c a piece if you don't need it the second it comes out. Given that 10242 will never discount, it's an awful price for a set that should be much cheaper than 9c/per small piece since it has no minifigures.
No reason to be a Lego fanboy when a set is overpriced. It looks great, other than the side door, but too expensive plain and simple. $100 for a small car, pass.
"Oh but it has so many RARE dark green elements!!!" says the lego guy in the video. lol.

I like the set, but I agree that the price is terrible. Although I feel like almost all of the lego sets are being incorrectly priced. Sets with low piece counts are high priced and sets with high piece counts are low priced. I would say that licensing plays a part, but the majority of lego sets are now licensed anyways besides the basic stuff like city, ninjago, and arctic sets.

Since I build in microscale all the time, a lot of small pieces is what I'm looking for. Weight and size mean nothing to me.stevebuscemi wrote:lol, you are one of those people who buy into the "if it's under $0.10 it's a good deal". I like the fact that it has no minifigures. I don't have any need for them in the things I build.stevebuscemi wrote:True it's licensed, but I can easily get licensed sets with lots of minifigures for $0.05-0.06c a piece if you don't need it the second it comes out. I'm not being a fanboy. I'll call Lego out when I think things are overpriced. Look for my opinions on the current Arctic line if you don't believe me.stevebuscemi wrote:No reason to be a Lego fanboy when a set is overpriced. Your point, mantisking, was that based on a price per piece it was a good deal. When I proved that it was a poor estimator of value, you then replied by basically saying you don't mind overpaying for sets with many tiny pieces and sets with no minifigures.
Thanks for proving my point.

Re: 10242 MINI Cooper MK VII LEGO Revealed
Actually, what I use is an estimator of cost not value. Value is a fluid thing that changes from person to person and moment to moment. In case you weren't listening, let's go over it again.stevebuscemi wrote:Your point, mantisking, was that based on a price per piece it was a good deal. Cost vs. Weight: Inaccurate at best. Microscale builders prefer small pieces which will naturally have a lower weight than larger bricks.
Cost vs. Size: What are we talking about here? Size of the box, size of the build itself? A bigger box usually means more empty space in the box. A bigger build usually means bigger bricks and we've been over that.
Cost vs. Minifigures: Minifigs are wasted plastic for a lot of microscale builders so we prefer sets without them.
So that leaves us with only one way of judging cost, price per piece.
And welcome to my ignore list.stevebuscemi wrote:Thanks for proving my point.

Re: 10242 MINI Cooper MK VII LEGO Revealed
You are clearly not understanding me. I'm glad you added me to your ignore list, as this is getting annoying.
The fact he seem to forget is smaller bricks and minifigure-less sets should cost less. It has nothing to do with someone's preference. For example, if someone had a set with 15+ minifigures (say 10236 Ewok Village) they would expect the price to be a bit more "per brick". If it has none, they expect it to be less.
It doesn't matter what they prefer, it's a matter of what it should cost, in general. but I wouldn't be surprised if this still doesn't compute in his head. So... he must think a ton of 1x1 wedge plates on BL for $0.10 each is a deal? I bet I could sell him some 1 x 2 plates I have for 9c each, what a steal! LOL.

Ignore them. If you like it, you like it. I'm a Lego fan and a bigger MINI fan so I have no problem with the money factor on this one.
Re: 10242 MINI Cooper MK VII LEGO Revealed
There is a topic devoted to discussing the price of LEGO in the conveniently and appropriately titled "The Price of LEGO".
However, the disagreement here is not really solely about the price per piece ratio but the perceived value of the set. Two people can obviously have two different opinions of the value of the set because it's all based on their personal perception and idea of the quality of a set within the context of their building/collecting preferences. There's no need for childish name-calling, since opinions, by their very nature, are neither wrong nor right - they just exist. My opinion of this set is that it looks great, but I don't have the room in my budget to purchase it in respect to other sets I want and it doesn't really fit in with the rest of my collection, so I'll give it a pass. Wouldn't I look silly if I tried to change everyone else's opinions to match mine?
