This week's question is on a LEGO Christmas Gift Exchange Idea (also known as Secret Santa). Would you be interested in exchanging LEGO gifts in our forums with other Toys N Bricks' forum members this holiday season? A typical LEGO gift exchange would be around $10-$15 + shipping. As Toys N Bricks takes no liability for the loss of gifts, should we only limit it to staff, straight shooters and/or long term members? As usual, comments and suggestions are more than welcome.

well, we should have some limitations, but problem is making limits can be harmful too, but we do have to exclude anyone under the age of 13 from the exchange.

I think I would need some pros and cons here for this one. I trust most people around here and I know who is a long term member and who just joined up so I feel safe but I don't see the benefit of this.

its a much broader benefit like a way for comraderie and getting to know your fellow LEGO enthusiast and exchange gifts (LEGO Gifts, hows that for a benefit?), its meant to be fun and is done on several "LEGO" sites every year.

I've done the "secret santa" thing over on RPG.net but I think I'm too new here to participate.

I don't know about a gift exchange, but a rotating parts bag might be cool. There's a few people on Flickr that have a "LEGO Jambalaya bag", which is kinda like a "take a penny, leave a penny" dish for LEGO pieces.

Not neccesarily. The one I participated in was run by a single person and they handed out real names, addresses, and wish lists to the people who had been matched up. We simply bought gifts and mailed them out.

problem with jambalya bags is its not controllable, I was recently in one and it was a major {blunder} with one of the participants exchanging crud for the goodies and another taking several items and only sending on one item, while in theory it sounds good in practice its not controllable.

It all depends on the group. Obviously you had a bad experience, but it seems to work pretty well in that Flickr group. If we used Flickr to post pics of what we were swapping out, as they seem to, and post them to the Toys N Bricks pool, there would be some accountability, at least.

yeah but swapping out LEGO could be mediocre at best since not alot of Specific LEGO people need that others would get rid of, could see this with like BrickArms or BrickForge items but LEGO is not really feasible since the pieces people would want people would not give up, and mailing a bunch of basic bricks would be expensive and boring.

Also on above post wasn't circumventing actual word I do use.
