My kids (almost 10 years old) are taking a Legos class. They aren't using the power function motors, but the older kinds.
They want motors and I am wondering whether to look on ebay (or any other places you would recommend) for the older kind or will they be able to figure out the power function on their own since as I said, I'm pretty clueless.
Also, if I get the older kind, what are they called?
Finally, what/how many pieces/kits would you recommend for the 2 of them and any suggestions on best places to shop?
Thanks!

Legos class, wish they had those when I was 10. Is this part of the First robotics program?

Alright, I think I have an idea what you're talking about. Pre Power Functions most of the motors were apart of a series called 'Dacta' which they still have a sub theme of today.
Go to this link: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Dacta
Scroll down to this subheading: Dacta TECHNIC sets (including Mindstorms)
You might be able to find the sets there.
If that doesn't help it should at least narrow down your search a bit to find the specific pieces you're looking for on Brickset.com
