Borders Lego Racers Event March 26th

My Borders store will be having a Lego event soon. Most stores have the same event on the same day.

LEGO Racers is the ultimate LEGO experience for kids who love to build and play with cars. Join us for this interactive racing event! Space is limited, call the store for details.

This is for kids! They recommend ages 8 & up on the sign but I took my 6 yr old to the last Atlantis event and there were other kids in his age group. There's an older topic with people's experiences about the Atlantis event.

How was the event? I've heard mixed reviews about TRU's lego events so I'm curious how this went and if it's worth looking out for future events at Borders (that is if they don't close their doors for good ;) )

I actually arrived as it was finishing, so I can't tell you much about the actual event. They did give me a polybag race car that was pretty cool. It had a few stickers. If you have the time, go ahead if not just to get the free car. I'd actually forgotten about the event, and that day was the coupon changing day :( , so it was a bright spot in my time of grief ;)

I took my son. It was somewhat similar to the Atlantis event Borders did last year. We arrived about 15 minutes early and there were already a bunch of kids. Our Borders has kids sign up and when they reach a certain # they won't accept any more. This way they know they have enough lego polys for each child. So if anyone considers going to a future event, I suggest getting there early.

One nice store employee was in charge of all the kids. She separated children into groups by sign up #. Kids huddled together on the floor while she explained what they were going to do. Each child got a sheet of paper with a race car picture on it and they colored them with crayons. THen cut out the car and taped it to a pencil. The idea was for 2 kids to race each other around the shelves in the kids section. But there were way too many children to run around the cramped area so after a few attempts, the employee decided everyone would march through the store in a parade to show off their race cars.

This would be my one big complain about the two Borders events that we've been to now. Not enough room. Every Borders is a little different and the one by us is cramped in the kids section. 30+ kids and 30+ adults leaves little breathing room. Everyone is right on top of each other.

Each child a small sample of hot cocoa and chocolate chip cookie from the diner area. Each child got a lego racers polybag. I think it was 7802 but I'm not sure now.

The event lasted just under an hour and my six year old had a great time.
