Lego Store Minifigure Speed Build Event - August 2011

As a reminder, the LEGO Store Minifigure Speed Building Event is now occuring in North America until Tuesday, August 16! Visit your local LEGO Brand Store from 5-7 pm to participate in this event. The fastest minifigure builder will win a Build-A-mini 3 pack to take home while each participant will receive one minifigure. Event is open to children aged 6-12 and only while supplies last. This is a FREE event and no purchase is necessary.

I took my daughter to this event today and it was really fun for her. I think each store does it differently, but this time, they did try to match up "younger" and "older" kids in separate groups, which seemed more fair for all involved.

It was between 3-5 contestants per round. You had to build as many minifigures (legs, torso, head, hat or hair, an accessory was not required) in 1 minute. The kid who had the most got to take home 3 figures and each runner-up received 1. They were able to customize their figure and add an accessory.

Although the event description indicates "one minifigure per person" on the calendar, the store associate let kids do it more than once as long as no new kids were waiting. My daughter did it twice, she came in third the first round and second in the second round. Overall it is a fun time and completely "free", although I still bought a few things .

I was at last month's event. Since I am too old for this, I made my sister participate :twisted: Shes 9 years old and was versing a bunch of 5-7 year old kids, and came in first place. It sucks that they put out all the 'unwanted' minifig pieces in my opinion. I was hoping to see some Series 1 minifig parts in there.
