A little underwhelmed at first glance. Especially how small some of these sets are for key scenes - although they seem to be throwing in extra minifigures to compensate.

^ agreed but expected I guess. Moria looks ok. Kinda looks like Balin's tomb.

I like the fact the sets have a good number of minifigs. Also, is the rearing horse a new piece?
LEGO, it's not just a toy, it's an addiction... ;)

I was wondering the same thing. Looking really close-it looks like a drawing (you know subject to change-not final art). Don't know how they'd do it but I guess we will see.

I have a feeling that the final sets will be better. They are definitely first draft because they don't even have the cave troll painted prototype complete. I'm thinking there will be other printed bricks or stickers which will make the sets pop.
I'm glad that Helm's Deep is one of the first sets because that would be the scene that I would want the most. I hope each Uruk-Hai comes with a shield. I'm also glad they have Uruk-Hai army as they are throwing me a bone to build an army at a cheaper rate.
Purchase quantity expectation:
LEGO 9469 Gandalf Arrives - 1
LEGO 9470 Shelob Attacks - 1
LEGO 9471 Uruk-hai Army - 20+ - This set will be constantly sold out
LEGO 9472 Attack On Weathertop - 3 - To build it bigger and for more Nazgul plus buy one more Nazgul off Bricklink
LEGO 9473 Mines Of Moria - 2 - Build it bigger
LEGO 9474 The Battle Of Helms Deep - 4+ - I'll start with 4.
LEGO 9476 The Orc Forge - 8+ - Even though I haven't seen this, I need Orcs. This must include Saruman and I hope a regular Uruk-Hai. But unfortunately they'll make it Lurtz instead. If it has at least: 2+ Orcs and 1+ Uruk-Hai (regular with shield) then I'll buy 20+, but if it falls short, I'll get about 8.
I hope these sets do well so that we'll see other wants fulfilled.
Elrond, Arwen, Haldir and other elves.
The only thing better than Helm's Deep is Castle of Rivendell!
Gandalf the White
Saruman's Tower
Minas Tirith
Eye of Sauron
Bilbo's house
Ent with Mary and Pippin

Looks like some nice sets to start the line. I'm seeing lots of Minifigs. I hope they make a new beard and wizard's hat for Gandalf.

Do I spy a new horse mold in one of the sets?
There seems to be lots of minifigs in the larger sets. That means the pricing is gonna look real nasty...

Wasn't this movie too VIOLENT to come out in LEGO? I think so.
