[TRU] BOGO 50% Off - City, Star Wars, & Cars - In Store YMMV

Hi All-

My local TRU had BOGO 50% off on all City, Star Wars, and Cars sets. The signs said the sale runs Friday 1/13 to Monday 1/16. The markup was outrageous on most sets, but there may be deals...I bought 2x 8404, which is a TRU exclusive and was not marked up at $99.99. I used some rewards certificates that were expiring today and got the cost down under $60/each!

In looking at the ad for next week it appears there aren't any LEGO sales (unless there are regional BOGOs like mentioned in this post). So Saturday may be your best bet for doing $10 off $50 and spending your rewards - including the new batch. Unless you want to roll the die and hope for a sale the following week.

I just left TRU and LEGO was not included in the BOGO, it was only for Megablocks and other "construction. I was hoping to use my rewards, but I guess I will have to wait.

Still no series 6 either...

I stopped by Target and managed to grab the last Funhouse Escape Super Heroes set. They had a bunch of Batcaves too, but with a $20 markup in price to $90. I took 17 photos capturing the various price increases that Toys R Us adds to sets:

Stopped at the Appleton WI TRU today to use my last Christmas rewards, and there was almost nothing left to choose from. What was there was all horribly marked up. There was no sign of a BOGO, either in signage or in the computers.

I finally settled on a Prince of Persia Quest Against Time. $53 TRU marked up price - $10 off $50 sale = $43 - $25 in rewards = $18. $3 over the orginal MSRP wasn't too bad of a markup, and with the $10 off it came down to a 14% off MSRP discount. Now I know these were clearanced elsewhere at much better percentages, but the gray slopes will be handy for Castle MOCs, and given the extremely limited selection I couldn't find anything else even remotely worth getting except some Creator sets, but even with the $10 off $50 discount they still would have been at or above regular MSRP, so I was happy scoring something below MSRP before Rewards.

I really wish one of the local retailers would start stocking their LEGO aisles. I saw several kids looking for City sets but other than the Airport, Jet, Powerboat Transporter, and new police Car, there wasn't really anything to be found.

Well, somewhat - the new city sets aren't B1G1 50% off online - they just have the $10 of $50 still...

I'm going to wait and see if that changes. I want a few of them...too bad they're still marked up 10%.

Looks like this is already dead. Kind of disappointing since it wasn't working for most of the sale period. It's about the only thing that comes close to offsetting some of the markups at TRU.

This has happened various times:

It's funny how the Republic Dropship is marked off as "Sold Out" during the actual sale, then magically restocks itself when the sale is over. This would have been one of the better deals to make out with the Imperial Shuttle, both at 50% off. Tried to score such during the original sale over Christmas, but they refused to restock the Dropship during the sale.
