LDD updates

Post by ncbarrett » Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:49 am

LEGO updated Digital Designer to 4.5.2

They changed the Universe tab to Digital Designer Extended.

Not sure what else has changed.
I haven't used it much, so maybe those who have can expand on changes.
I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!

The biggest news is probably the inclusion of two pieces that don't actually exist... YET...

LDD has just been updated to 4.3.5 (the previous version was 4.2.5, not 4.5.2 as initially reported).

Word from straight from the dev team is:
212 new bricks.
118 bricks had one or more bug fixes.
9 new decorations.
New pieces include LEGO Friends minidoll segments and accessories, more modified heads, new baseplates and train tracks. The biggest change I can see (other than the additions and bug fixes) are new, more specific, element categories which will greatly increasing ease of use!

I'm glad to see they are still updating LDD even after DesignByMe and Lego Universe went belly-up (both had tie-ins to LDD).

That new bracket piece is indeed exciting! I think TLG noticed so many people using pieces like the modified 1x1 with stud on side for that sort of use, and decided to make a new mold.

LDD was updated to 4.3.6 today - this is not a comprehensive list of additions, but just what I could seek out at work this morning...

There are a bunch of new heads/coverings, including all the Galaxy Squad robot heads, Galaxy Squad "Buggoid" head (but not the Mosquitoid), and (I think) all of the Chima animal "helmets". Looks like a lot of new CMF hair pieces (s9 "Forest Maiden" braids, s7 "Hippie" hair, s9 "Judge" wig) and a bunch of the beard/hair combos from the new Hobbit sets, as well as a bunch of new shoulder/hip accessories, including the Galaxy Patrol armor, Chima armor, Bagpiper kilt, Fairy skirt, Actor "neck ruffle"... Cool stuff.

The 3x3 plate was added back as well.

Unfortunately, "outlines on bricks" is still grayed out on Mac OSX. Hopefully the update took care of some of the crashing issues on Mac, though.

So, I was wrong - they have fixed "outlines on bricks". I had to first turn on "High quality rendering of bricks in Bricks Palette" before the "Outlines on bricks" option became ungrayed. Odd coupling, that.

Superkalle over at Eurobricks also put together an LDD file of the new pieces in this update, and I've archived it on Dropbox.
