LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
My son has been bemoaning the lack of purple bricks in his brick box, so I've been looking into getting him some to add to his collection. I understand the pink brick box now contains some purple bricks. So my question is - does anyone have 4625 and can you tell me a little bit about the breakdown of bricks in the box? I'm sure my son would use the pink and magenta bricks as well, so I'm inclined to buy it, but if it only contains a few purple bricks, it's not going to be enough. On the other hand, I'm reluctant to break up an HP Knight Bus at this point, so... Thanks.
Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
If you look at the back of the instruction booklet it shows the inventory. The link is below...it's not a ton of purple.

Another option is the Bricklink http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=4625-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or Peeron inventory lists, which are quite reliable.
Bricklink lists twenty 'dark purple' bricks in 5 types (4 each). Not a lot. You may be better off getting a bunch of used bricks from bricklink sellers.

Thanks to you both - that's really helpful.
Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
Another option I'd recommend is if you have a LEGO store near you to look at the Pick a Brick wall.
Personally, Our LUG has formed a relationship with our store. Since we buy a good portion of what they sell we offer suggestions for element types and colors for them to see if they can stock. If you manage to get a store that has a nice selection you can even buy entire boxes of one piece for roughly $75. To find what stores are out there and to get an idea what pieces are currently available try searching this link http://www.brickbuildr.com/view/pab/
It relies on fans updating it so the info is a bit spotty. But if you find a purple piece chances are this is the best way to get it in massive bulk without participating in a program. Most LEGO stores will even ship products to you if you don't live close.
Also, here's a list of bricks that actually come in Purple. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.as ... &catType=P
Hope that helps.

Thanks, Will. That's really interesting. We checked our local Pick a Brick tonight with no luck, but I didn't realize you could do any kind of store search like that. I'll check it out.
Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
I do want to point out the link I provided is not a sure thing. I know the store in Sacramento, CA where I go can even change from week to week. My advice is look at the date the walls were last updated. They actually color code the ones that have been updated.melsig wrote:Thanks, Will. That's really interesting. Also, if all else fails and you think the prices on Bricklink are too much, grab the HP Knight Bus instructions, look for that number mentioned above for the parts you want and call LEGO customer service.
LEGO will sell you parts from sets that are current provided they are in production. They don't even need to be on their online PaB wall. So if you just want some bears from the new city sets, or minifigures from the new Super Hero sets, or just purple bricks they can help with that.
The things you'll need are the set number they come in and the element ID number that is located in the instructions.
You can even look this number up on Bricklink. Which I might start up a new thread later on when I have time.

Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
Thanks for this info. I am going to ask my local store and see if they plan (or if they can) order some of the newer colors from the Friends sets for the PAB wall. BUT I think it's great info to know that I could potentially get these parts by asking customer service to sell them to me. I just assumed that they only sold what was available on the on-line listing.blackpyre wrote:I do want to point out the link I provided is not a sure thing. Will they really sell just minifigures in this manner? About how much do those cost this way?
Great info, thanks!

Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
^ My understanding is that they would sell minifigs the same way, however, you'd be charged for the individual parts (ie. head, torso, legs). There is a limited selection of minifigs parts in the PaB section of the LEGO site, so I would assume that you could order parts that aren't listed the same way you could order pieces, like blackpyre mentioned.
This is news to me as well, so I might start ordering a few things!

Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
It's like unclephn said. They'll be sold just like how they come in a set.
Personally I haven't done it so I can only speculate that the price would roughly be similar to the online PaB wall.
I found this out through one of my friends from my LUG. He knew people who did it for their Bricklink Stores. It cut down on a lot of cost for those sellers who didn't want to buy fifty copies of the largest sets just for the minifigures.
I was also under the assumption that only the online wall was just for sell, but it's just one more unadvertised thing. I think it has more to do with the fact that the online wall symbolizes a mass production of parts where all the other pieces are produced in much smaller quantities. In other words, it's logistically easier to do it this way.
In fact, another thing I recently found out is that managers for the LEGO stores periodically go to big corperate meetings. Well, while there they have access to an archive store. It contains a lot of really old discontinued products not available anywhere else.
Many LEGO employees work with their manager to pick them up some old sets. This might give some people a reason to get a part-time job with LEGO. ;)

One other thing.
I created a new thread called "Locating Element IDs on Bricklink."
This will help you find the number you need to tell the customer service person when calling.

Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
I think purple bricks will become much more common once the Friends sets have been out for awhile.
Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
Have been finding 2x3 plates in purple in the PAB wall in the last 30 days.
Re: LEGO 4625 Question - How Many Purple Bricks?
We had them too - for about a day. They went pretty quickly. We also had the 4 x 1 pink bricks very briefly.

Actually, if you can find the Knight Bus set, it has a ton of purple bricks...mostly 1xs.
16 1x1
26 1x2
18 1x4
a few plates
Plus windows and three arches.
Good luck,
