Boeing 747-400

Post by hysot » Sun Aug 12, 2012 3:58 pm

Hello

Since my childhood I've always wanted to built a big airplane as close as the real one with fancy functions like flaps, landing gear, doors.....at first I thought I could built it in Technics and get all these functions motorized but I thought it would have been too complicated and too expensive. So no Technics just Lego (well actually it's not completely true...you'll see)
I started this project last April on LDD, Why on LDD because I moved in Canada in 2009 leaving my 2 big box of Lego in France. SO without any parts here I decided to design it on LDD and then order parts on bricklink.

First with some LDD screenshots:

Now let's see the real one. Actually just the beginning :-D
Sorry I just add links for the picture because they are from my gallery and too big for the forum (too bad 800px width would have been perfect :problem: )

The wings with 2 complete engines and 2 engines partially done, slats (leading edge flaps), inboard flaps partially done and main landing gear (without wheels)

You can notice that the wing has an upward angle like the real one. To realize that I built a special center wing box:
Here is the version 1.0 waaaay to weak

and here is the version 2.2 way better:

You can see the nice wing bend (I just love it :) ) with the slats retracted

The version 1 of the engine, to weak also (the fan was not mounted yet)

I reinforced the inside of the engine and still working on the improvement of the cowling

here a version 2 of my cowling:
I replaced the bricks 1x1x4 white and 1x13 white by plates 1x4 white and 1x3 white

The inboard flaps still at an early stage, just to confirm the design

I recently started the fuselage

You can check more pictures on my flickr gallery (Some of them are showing old configuration - I made a bunch of modifications since then)

That's pretty bad@ss. There is no other planes line the 747. It's iconic. Only the best carriers use them. I'll be waiting to see the final results.

Hello!

I did a couple of modifications to reinforce the attachment point between the engine and the pylon.
At the end I have 5 knobs instead of 3 to attach the engine to the pylon and the weight is identical to the old version 2.0 because I reduced the size of the pylon. The engine is 1 knob longer and the reverser thrust 1 knob shorter

PS: I have to change the decal

Hey Legohunter!
Thanks a lot, I will keep posting.
It's hard to say how many I used...I still have a bunch of parts unpacked...so far I ordered 1476 parts and used about 80% of it. The total for the plane is almost 4000 parts.
