QUestion about Overland Park, KS Lego store

Post by prozac » Tue Aug 28, 2012 8:59 pm

So a buddy and I are gonna be making the 4 hr trip to this store and just wondering if anyone is from around there or been there. Only Lego store I've been to is the one in Disney and it's awesome...hoping for the same at this one. Is it bigger? Does it have a good PAB wall? Any info is appreciated.

I visited this store over the summer. The PaB wall was mediocre at best. Have seen a lot better and have seen a few much worse. The store is a slightly different layout as it is wider than it is deep, which is the more unusual layout compared to most Lego Retail stores I have been to. The staff was well above average, seemed very knowledgeable and very friendly. If you visit the schaumburg/downtown IL locations often you may be disappointed....

Northern IL is about 6 hours which is why we're going to the ks location.

PAB can be hit or miss. The staff is great though.

If you're into LOTR, I read somewhere else that the Uruk Hai polybags were only available at legoland stores. If that's the case you should pick some up. (And send one my way :) )

You score any neat stuff in those grab bags? I've only ever bought a couple, and it was only cuz i spotted some minifigs in them.

I got many lotr urki hai minis, lots from the new out post sets, a few from collectible mini figs and lots of random pieces. I also got quite a few smaller animals like the hedge hog, rabbit and Ninjago creatures.

70 grab bags? How many did the store have? I've only seen 10-15 out at a time.

So are the grab bags a good deal? I've seen them once before but didn't really have a feel for what was in them.

I got a couple cool pieces in my grab bag... uruk hai sword, Sandtrooper from the droid escape minus helmet/accessories(only had is pauldron) a girl from teh Grand Emporium Set, and just a few pieces that piqued my interest.

I saw one bag had the Beserker Uruk head in it.

I would say yes IMO. $8 for what seems like more than you can fit in a big PaB cup. Granted you don't get to pick what goes in there...

So you are the one that got all the grab bag. I live close to the store and been there plenty of times. Never saw any grab bag. They get their shipment in a bit late on some stuff and usually runs out the popular stuff fast. The managements are very helpful. The best item there were on Pab wall were red diamond jewels. They do have like over 200 friends calendar sets

FYI guys, I'm going to move this to "retailer discussions" since it really belongs there.

I called them a few weeks ao and asked if they had calendars and grab bags. They told me that they were putting out 200 grab bags that Saturday. I drove over 4 hours to get there but made it worth my time.

Yep... That was me... I was the nut that had to have them box it up instead of bags. The workers ere really nice though and even made a carry handle for the bags. I left with almost 50-60 pounds of Lego. I got about 95% of the Lego unimog set.

It's hit or miss. You can see some of what is in the bags, so I generally look for interesting pieces, if I don't see any I'll pass. Let me give you two examples:

-A while back I found some bags with pastel colors and also with dark colors (Brown, Gray, Black). There were some good pieces, but I ended up with lots of round/cone pieces in Friends colors (nice, but normal bricks and plates would have been better), and lots of 1x2 black bricks with clips. Again, nice, but I think I now have more than I'll ever need.

I count this as my biggest grab bag miss, although I did get a few nice pieces (some LEGO City Forest Police, Ninjago, and Dino pieces).

Fast forward a few months:

-Different LEGO store and I saw some bags with Lego City Mining and Lord of the Rings pieces. I think I grabbed three and in them I found: Five Ringwraiths (one missing a cape, a couple missing hoods - but the others had capes and hoods and the hoods are easy enough to get since they aren't unique), two of the new LEGO horses, tons of hinge plates, arch pieces, and lots of bricks and plates in LotR colors, and some train bogeys.

This is definitely my best set of grab bags, and after a find like this it's hard to get excited when I see grab bags now. I've passed the last two times I saw bags because I didn't see any exciting pieces. Although I'm sure that when I see some nice pieces again I'll pick up some bags.
